Best, Worst, How many?

Jac35Jac35 Member Posts: 6,491
My mind wanders a lot and this morning i’ve been thinking about how many grounds i’ve seen Derby on
Only 19 surprisingly (part time fan)

The best is an obvious choice but it really is fantastic. Wembley
Worst is an easy choice too. Elland Road

My list

Wembley
Leeds Utd - Elland Road
Manchester Utd - Old Trafford
Chelsea - Stamford Bridge
Spurs - White Hart Lane
Aston Villa - Villa Park
Sheffield Wednesday- Hillsborough
Coventry City - Highfield Road
Stoke City - Victoria Ground
Wolves - Molineux
Birmingham City - St Andrews
Doncaster Rovers - Keepmoat
Burnley - Turf Moor
Huddersfield Town - Mcalpine
Leicester City - Filbert Street and King Power
Barnsley - Oakwell
Torquay Utd - Plainmoor
Sheffield Utd - Bramall Lane

    Ha, too quick
I was going to edit. I’ve been there but not to see Derby

I watched Torquay play Wrexham at Plainmoor
They won 6-1 and Paul Dobson got a hat trick

First day of a family holiday. We’d been in Torquay for less than an hour and hadn’t even unpacked. My Dad took me to the game. Mum was delighted

    That makes much more sense.

I love this thread. Brings back so many memories.
I have visited 72 of the grounds in the current football league, plus another 7 who currently play their football in the national league but who were league clubs at the time.
I have visited 13 in their old and new stadiums, plus another four who were “ homeless “ and had to play in rented accommodation.
I have not included Wembley as a league ground. I had always said I would not go to Wembley to see England until I had seen Pompey play there, never thought I would get to go , but have been lucky enough to see us play there five times with a 4-1 winning record.
Would have been 5-0 had a self inflated egomaniac midfielder scored a penalty. To this day I have still not seen the national team play.
So many stories, I could write pages of them , both funny and sad . Away days with my brothers are always the best, although I have been to many on solo trips. Some incredible highs and dreadful lows.
I will have to think of best and worst, lots of different reasons as to why a ground would hold good and bad memories.

    Ooh, good one Jac.
    Everton for me.

    Everton - Goodison Park
    Macclesfield - Moss Rose
    Wembley - Old and New
    Liverpoo - Analfield
Man City - Maine Rd and Etihad
    Man Utd - Old Trafford
    Stockport County - Edgeley Park
Stoke - Victoria Ground and Britannia (at the time)
    Port Vale - Vale Park
    Crewe - Gresty Rd
    Chester - Deva Stadium
    Tranmere - Prenton Park
Bolton - Burnden Park and Reebok
    Oldham - Boundary Park
    Blackburn - Ewood Park
    Sheffield Wednesday - Hillsborough
    Sheffield United - Bramall Lane
    Bradford - Valley Parade
    Leeds - Elland Rd
    Aston Villa - Villa Park
    Birmingham - St Andrew's
    West Brom - The Hawthorns
    Barnsley - Oakwell
    Rotherham - Millmoor
    Newcastle - St James Park
    Middlesbrough - Ayresome Park
    Sunderland - Roker Park
Derby - Baseball Ground and Pride Park
    Nottingham Forest - City Ground
    Notts County - Meadow Lane
Leicester - Filbert Street and King Power
Coventry - Highfield Rd and Ricoh Arena
    Peterborough - London Road
    Oxford - Manor Ground
    Norwich - Carrow Rd
    Arsenal - Highbury
    West Ham - Upton Park
Charlton - Selhurst Park (ground sharing at the time)
    Wimbledon - Plough Lane
Southampton - The Dell and St Mary's

I may have forgotten some so there could be more.

    Worst Away
Oakwell in the 1990s. The away end was awful. Very steep and dangerous especially when everyone wanted to use the tiny toilet at half time.

    Or
Manor ground. Small and cramped, penned in. With the metal fencing pre Hillsborough.
The match on 30/4/1986 lives long in the memory of Everton fans for other reasons.

    Best Away
Seeing Macclesfield play Everton at Moss Rose

I always liked Villa Park and Hillsborough. Maybe because it's traditional old clubs with big old grounds.

    Coldest
    Definitely Oldham

Boundary Park - Oldham , especially when the away end was open, was one of the coldest afternoons I’ve had.
The Bet365 - Stoke runs it very , very close.
