Who won what, Sunday 9th January - The Major goes to ValueJL for the 4th time

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 171,805

Afternoon.

Numbers continue to be decent, although most of the Xmas & New Year froth has now disappeared.

In sport, Djokovic has won Round 2 of his battle to get into Australia, though I fancy this story still has legs. I try very hard not to dislike anyone - it's an age thing - but I'm finding it hard not to take against him for all sorts of reasons. Entitled super-rich sports men & women is not a good look. If the countless refugees who Australia have turned away had his legal resources, I daresay many of them would gain entry too. It's a cruel world for many. Whenever & wherever Djokovic plays in future, I shall be anti-railing him. That'll really worry him.

AFCON got underway, & I watched the evening game between Ethiopia & Cape Verde. Might just have been the worst 90 minutes football I've ever seen, but let's hope that is an anomaly. For balance, an early red card for Ethiopia never helped. Tournament favourites Senegal start their journey today, so let's hope for a better game this time.

Crushy was MIA on Saturday, so had to make up for lost time last night. Won both 7 @ 7 & Quickdraw, was 4th in Sheriff & 5th in a £500 BH. He makes the game look ridiculously easy.

HENDRIK62 (2nd) had his best result for 9 months, if we exclude satellites. Enjoys his poker, but his passion is - or was? - golf, at which he's more than handy. Think he plays off scratch or something equally improbable.

Cleis won a Predator Main 355 days ago, & winning this was his best subsequent result.

5th was a decent result for HUGHMANS, someone who has such dreadful taste in music he probably has all of Coldplay's albums.

winner5603, who took down Hitman Main last week, was 7th.

    £15,000 Sunday Major (£16,900)

We must take Sharky ratings with a pinch of salt, and Sunday Major winner ValueJL has one of the highest on the site - 96. A quick examination of his record though suggests it's not excessive - he has only logged 1,690 MTT's here but this was the FOURTH time he's won Sunday Major since August 2019. Delve a little further & we see he has also finished runner-up SIX times in the same period. So that Top Two 10 times in 2.5 years. Extraordinary.

In relative terms 2nd for Nero543 was a huge result. Has winning form in Turbo (twice), 7 @ 7, Avenger Mini & Mega, so is certainly useful, but this was different class. Won his entry via the Early Semi for £22, so that makes it even better, & I'm reasonably sure he would not have played it unless he satted in. Nice one Nero. His alias of course refers to the great Roman Emperor, who Dr Google informs us was best known for his debaucheries. Or it might refer to a chain of coffee shops. The debauchery route sounds more interesting.

Mattbrad was 3rd. I missed the closing stages of the Major so don't know exactly what went off but I gather that three-handed it all played out somewhat oddly.

4th to 6th was occupied by Usual Suspects in the form of grinddd, Dog Bloke & Lord Arrogant.

Too many well-known players made it into the money spots to mention, but good to see TommyD's run of decent MTT results continues. Cheezy did well too.

Two very decent players occupied the bubble & double bubble in the form of UnEuropean & destinycod.

    £2,000 Mini Major (£2,120)

Blaiseee has only just returned from a 3 week absence & it's all going rather well. Won Friday's Avenger Main almost a year to the day since he last won it & retirned last night to take the Mini Major from Madman_Mus.

One of the most pleasing results of the night was Asho28 finishing 3rd. Is trying very hard to improve his game, & takes his poker very seriously. A wise old player once asked me what I thought was more important for a recreational - winning money, or really enjoying every minute of the game. My answer was simple, but we all see these things differently. I adored every moment I ever played, often at the expense of my results, & I've never regretted that, but we are all different. Ideally of course we want to do both, but that's a tough gig. Anyway, well done Asho, & I look forward to more progression & results. Just don't worry about the short-term please, it's the long-term that matters, & you'll be just fine. I'd best shut up now, before I inherit the crown of Coach Collabo.

    £1,000 Mega Stack B/Hunter (£1,340)

To the delight of his army of fan, steveysee won Mega just 24 hours after coming on the Forum & having a bit of a vent. A win makes all the difference.

I'm really not sure what is going on with TommyD. We never used to see much of him in MTT's as he was busy in other Formats, but he seems to have moved back to the Tourneys now. Had a deep run in the Major too.

Ny Mega standards a very tough FT, with Super-Oli in 4th & BFF 5th.

Another who seems to be making more Finals of late is NOSTRI, 6th here & made finals of both Mini & Sheriff earlier on the week. In the last few months he has now finished 1st, 3rd, 5th & 6th in Mega.

A year & a day since making FIVE FT's in a single night, Super_Oli enjoyed his first Featured MTT win of 2022.

This was fun, with the win going to SPT Las Vegas winner Granite89, who began with 7,000 chips.

2nd was dolemoney, while Team Reprobate were represented by Sunday8pm in 3rd.

    scotty77 was a very pleasing 5th.

Too many familiar names to mention made the money, but a quick shoutout to TommyD, Whizzy, asmith & Jeni82. Very few players enjoy their poker as much as Jeni82, win or lose they seem to have a good time, so they are a big winner in my book.

No I certainly havent. Once I FTd I started thinking about what I would request from my playlist when I won and that, of course, was my downfall.

Nice writeup again @Tikay10 ! Never mind the FTJ, I long for a SBJ (Stone Bubble Jackpot), having managed to stone bubble the Major, Sheriff and Turbo in the same night, which I'd say is quite some (lack of) achievement!

    oof.

Yeah, that takes some doing, but it also suggests you are not doing much wrong & the wins will resume soon enough.

Thanks Tikay. Completely agree - certainly went through a spell recently where I wasn't enjoying playing and starting to get a bit annoyed with myself. Obviously it's nice to have a few decent results like last night, but enjoyment has to be main aim for recs like me. No point forcing yourself to play if you're not enjoying it.

    Great write-up as always.
