Resident Evil - New Film delivers disappointment.

Ok, one of the big criticisms of the original resident evil films were that they only loosely touched on the games on which the characters and scenarios were based, that aside they were moderately entertaining if sci / horror is your thing.

fast forward to 2022 and to a drum roll amongst fans of the classic Capcom games a reboot is upon us. £15.99 later on Sky and I am sat in anticipation almost akin to 3pm on the first Saturday of the season, unfortunately like so many 3pms it fails bitterly to deliver.

Firstly wtf ever inspired the directors to try and merge games 1 and 2 into a concurrent timeline?. Game 2 takes place a full 3 months after game 1 concludes but running the two storylines side by side is not helpful to any feeling you have for the characters as time spent developing a bond between viewer and said characters is minimal and you get no feel for any of them.

Except that is for Leon. Yes director lets take the stand up, square jawed fresh from the academy hero of Res 2 and portray him as a gormless waster, bereft of brains, intellect and intelligence.

The scenes and sets are completely as any person who has played the games would want unfortunately the atmospheric etheral, quality that made the games almost unbearably tense to play is missing and the whole thing feels rushed, aimless and cheap.

Several times you are left scratching your head. Why do they kill the chopper pilot at the mansion from game 1 when you don't even meet him until he flies the heroes out at the end of game 3. Where is Barry Burton?, why is Wesker so young?, why do we only get to see Ada Wong at the very end and I'm talking an after credits little addition, when she's integral to much of the storyline.

My wife watched it and said she thought it was ok but then she's never played the games. I've yet to meet anybody who has who thinks this just doesn't stink.

The first 4 films of the franchise were on Sky last night. They suddenly seem much more appealing.
