I have considerable experience of working with the UK offices of Chinese Companies. Without going into improper detail, let's just say that many Chinese Companies have closer links to the Party than is typical in the UK (although some recent PPE contracts have shown similar (and worse) tendencies).
Ms Lee is a British citizen. Been here since she was a child. I am aware that she has made donations to the Conservatives and Lib Dems, as well as Labour. As indeed have many UK Companies. She appears to have made no secret as to these donations, nor that she provides legal services to the Chinese Government.
I have no idea what she is believed to have done wrong. On the first reading of the MI5 statement, it would appear that MI5 are unsure what she has done wrong, or at very least seem unwilling to say.
I don't quite understand why all this has been aired so publicly, and why now. But it does not seem a very British way of dealing with such things.
Compare and contrast with the treatment of David Cameron in his post-PM business dealings.

Probably another "move the spotlight off Boris" distraction?
Hardly.
I don't know her well. But I do know that some of this relates to how close she was allowed to get to Cameron, May and Johnson in the past. At their instigation.
If this has been known about since at least 2017, why was her son allowed to get a job in his office?
That is simple.
Lots of things are unclear. But some things are very clear.
1. Barry Gardiner was liaising with the Security Services about all this. We both know that the Security Services could have told him not to employ her son. We both know they did not. That and, from what we read, her son was at all times totally unaware
2. Round about 2017, there were considerable negotiations surrounding who was going to pay for the replacement Hinkley Point. The UK initially wanted this to be paid for by a French state-sponsored Company (EDF) and a Chinese state-sponsored Company. So-presumably at some stage we gave China various secrets about certain nuclear capabilities. Then-for reasons unknown-we changed course
3. In 2017, China was very much our friend. Politics change. Security Service positions change.

Are you sure?
I heard that she organised all of "the parties" and that No.10 was a secret code for sweet and sour pork with egg fried rice.

I do know that I am a huge supporter of our Security Services, which are certainly amongst the best (and may be the best) in the whole world.
But, in this particular instance, we look stupid.
