I read this article earlier today. Behind the headline, this story actually paints a rather different picture.

Mr Yaxley-Lennon declared himself Bankrupt last year.

He has previously received rather a lot of money via crowdfunding and the like.
It appears that, shortly before he decided to declare himself Bankrupt, his Wife both divorced him and bought a rather nice house.

There is lots of conjecture as to where that money came from. There is also some gossip concerning whether he will reconcile with his ex-Wife about 1 day after he is discharged from Bankruptcy. And where he will live. Because, after Discharge from Bankruptcy, it is extremely unlikely that anyone can touch any assets.

So-interested groups trying to get money for the kid he libelled which is the cause of his Bankruptcy have funded an independent investigator as it is felt (rightly or wrongly) that the Official Receiver has not got the time to devote to checking various things out that his detractors think should be investigated.

I have to say that there is a delicious irony in a self-styled "independent investigative journalist" being independently investigated.

But it is important to recognise that sometimes it is within the law to game the system. Things contained in Laws to protect the innocent can sometimes, perfectly legally, be used for advantage by both the innocent and the not-quite-so-innocent.

It is also important, however, to recognise that, in the past, Mr Yaxley-Lennon has failed to recognise when that crosses over to Fraud. Which is, of course why he has previously been imprisoned for Fraud. In addition to his drug convictions, assaulting a police officer, immigration offences, stalking, contempt of Court, etc.

That makes it understandable why people want to check. But that does not make him Guilty this time. And, if people were so sure they would win, unlikely to be advertising all this...
