Man who cut his hand as he tried to murder his wife - in brutal attack with an eight-inch kitchen knife that left her close to death - wins £17,500 after suing NHS for 'criminal negligence' in treating his injuriesDorinel Cojanu's lawyers successfully argued that the NHS had been 'criminally negligent' in failing to treat his hand quickly enough after he injured it trying to stab his wife at their Watford home. Cojanu (left), 36, was jailed for 11 years for the sickening attack on his then wife Daniella where he plunged an eight-inch blade into her back and front in the kitchen of their home in Watford, Herts. Daniela, 35 spent almost four months in hospital battling for her life and has been left with permanent scars. But the attack was so ferocious, it left Cojanu with deep cuts to two fingers on his right hand. From behind bars, Cojanu launched a compensation claim against the NHS insisting that the failure of doctors to treat him soon after going into prison after his appointment was cancelled over security fears. He initially demanded compensation of £325,000 - but was eventually granted £17,500. Since his release from jail, Cojanu was deported to his native Romania.

It is Negligence. simple Negligence. Nothing Criminal about it.
Man was injured. NHS failed to treat him timeously. Causing further injury. Not as much as he was trying to claim. But £17,500-worth.
The only bit that was sad was that his ex-wife did not take proceedings to ensure any award was transferred to her before he was deported. I do not know whether she has made a Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority Claim-because the Mail couldn't be bothered to report on that bit.
The NHS has a duty to all of us. Including people I do not like.
