This conflict is about the Russian people that live in Ukraine and not what the press says. In the 1960s Russians from the old USSR were promised a house and a job if they moved into Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine etc. Then the Berlin wall came down in Nov 1989 and these countries began getting their independence. None of them like the Russians for obvious reasons, but they started treating them like 2nd class citizens. Moved Russian war memorials, banned Russian flags, shirts, teaching Russian in schools, made Russians 'aliens' if they couldn't speak and write the countries language. My ex was Russian and her parents couldn't travel to UK from Tallinn, because Estonians wouldn't issue them with a full passport. Russians do not take **** and eventually they will retaliate. The mother in law used to say.........'If the bear wants to sleep, then do not wake it up!'I do not think the Russians are right, i am just explaining why they are attacking Ukraine and hopefully they will take the Eastern part into Russia and withdraw.

I respect your view on this @SCOTFOX and if i were a Russian living in a annexed former Russian country my view maybe different Why did those countries have independence after the fall of the USSR in 91? 90% of Ukrainians voted for independence after the collapse , i get that the Russian speakers in the east and Crimea would have probably wanted to stay in Russia but Russia re-claimed Crimea and Georgia , forcefully i may add, in 2014 with no repercussions so why invade Ukraine , was it because UKR was getting to cosy with the west ? Ukraine has been ruled many empires in the past most of the time by Russia but there has always been an underlying Ukrainian republic with much unrest in the area for centuries My outrage with Russia is how they are going about it , murdering normal folks like you and me , sending missiles into theatres and hotels where families are holed up. This war may go on for years ,i hope not but i think it will , unless it escalates which none of us want , the one thing i do know Ukraine will never give up

You don't think Ukraine is doing the same, just because it's not reported on the MSN? They've been attacking the Donbass area since the 2014 US organised coup.
Ah ok so what i said about no repercussions was wrong then , so AFTER the Russian separatists invaded the Donbas the Ukrainians retaliated .. Whoda thunk

Ukrainian and the Baltic states are pro German and do not want anything to do with Russia. NATO will not let Ukraine join because then they would have to back them 100%, instead of just sending them a few tanks etc. There is no point in Ukraine keeping the Eastern area of their country, because the Russians will never leave as they are at least 3rd generation citizens and the majority have never lived anywhere else. I would hope a deal (chop) will be done next year and new borders drawn up.
