I live in Swansea, and the story was obviously massive in the local news. Besides it being a barbaric crime, it is a truly incredible story. I wont spoil it, but there are police officer twins involved, one of whom couldnt remember where he was on the night of the crime, the other had a wife that was involved in a les bian relationship with one of the victims, which he claimed to be oblivious of at the time of the murders, an amazing e-fit, and some dubious witnesses. The case is anything but clear cut.
Policeman admits e-fit likeness Stuart Lewis Inspector Lewis was secretly filmed by Panorama A serving police officer who bears a remarkable likeness to an e-fit of someone seen near the scene of the Clydach murders, has admitted that he should have been arrested during the case.
Eyewitness Nicola Williams was driving home in the early hours of the morning at the time of the killings when she saw a man walking briskly up the hill near the murder scene.
Dad of children killed in Clydach murders breaks silence for first time after 'harrowing' 21 years He has spoken out ahead of a documentary on the horrific crimes this week, to say the murder trial verdict was the 'right decision'
Finished watching it yesterday, plenty of twists and turns in that case. The OMG moment was (after the e-fit description provided by the witnesses) that there was an identical twin involved. To me any one of the 4 suspects could've been found guilty of the crime, as it is, the actual conviction of Morris was certainly not beyond all reasonable doubt.

I would agree with the reasonable doubt. There were 4 suspects, thats not to say someone else could be responsible. Of the 4 suspects I think the least likely was Alison Lewis. In my opinion she didnt seem capable of battering four people to death, particularly two young kids. I cant believe that her husband didnt know about her relationship with Mandy. I know how they gossip in small communities, and the whole rugby team knew. This makes it impossible for her husband not to find out. I also find it incredible that the meticulous police officer brother could go from he didnt go into the house, to he may have touched loads of stuff including the murder weapon, when it was hidden next to the shed, in the back garden, and that he forgot where he was at the time of the murders.
I have never seen such an accurate e-fit.
The chain was really the only thing that convicted Dai Morris. I dont remember all the timings, but I think he was arrested 2 years later. This was not the only gold chain in the world, and who knows what might have happened to his chain during this two years. Maybe he really didnt know. His lifestyle of excessive drink and drugs often ruins any clear memories. What if it was his, and he left it there, or gave it to Mandy, and she was wearing it at the time of the murder. That would account for it being where it was found.
The police botched the investigation completely. They ruined the crime scene. They found no forensic evidence. How is it possible to batter 4 people to death, and escape without someone knowing? Whoever committed the crime could not have got away without taking evidence with them. The police were immediately aware of the relationships that were going on. Why didnt they immediately pull the suspects in, and search for bloodstained clothes etc. You can often pick suspects up on CCTV to confirm what they were wearing. It took them 2 years, and two trips to Crimewatch on the telly to find out that Dai Morris had a similar chain. How many people would you have to talk to in a small village, to find that out?
I was disappointed that despite their sins of the past they seemed to be seeking to avoid openness, honesty, and transparency, by refusing to release the recent DNA findings, 25 after the crime was committed. They only commented that the DNA testing didnt eliminate Dai Morris. That means nothing. There are probably millions of people that wouldnt be eliminated.
I think it is impossible to say whether Dai Morris did it or not, but it surely wasnt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The other troubling thing in my view, was the scenario painted by the prosecution. This was that Dai Morris arrived there expecting sex with Mandy. She was not in favour of the idea. This resulted in a dispute which led to the 4 murders. There were no reports of any disturbances on the doorstep.
We know that Mandys Mother was the first to be killed. We also know that the murder weapon was hidden at the side of the shed in the back garden.
So did Mandy let Dai Morris in to avoid waking the neighbours. Then have the row. Let him leave the house to get the murder weapon. Allow him to come back into the house. Then stand by while he goes upstairs. Ignores the fact he is beating her Mother to death. Doesnt think of phoning the Police.
It surely makes more sense that there was no dispute about anything, and that the killer had made up his mind to at least attack somebody, and took the murder weapon with them when they entered the house. I am not saying they had planned to kill the whole family, but had planned an attack.
All four of the suspects had some sort of incriminating/circumstantial/witness evidence against them. Dai Morris, the gold chain connection.Alison Lewis, the witness statement of being freshly showered the morning after the murders, the video tape in her home,CCTV images of Mandy Power buying wine ahead of Alison Lewis's expected visit on the night of the murders.Stuart Lewis, the 'missing hours' while on duty that night,a diesel car being heard outside the house on the night, his statement being picked apart on numerous answers including going in to kitchen to use matches to light cooker but the cooker in the house was electric. Stephen Lewis, had the motivation as his wife was having an affair with Mandy Power. If all of the above could be attributed to one person, then that's your murderer but to convict someone on parts of it makes it an unsafe conviction.Especially when the other evidence can be laid at the three other suspects.

I wouldnt disagree with any of that. As you said the evidence against each of the 4 is not conclusive enough to convict any one of them of murder. I would therefore not be surprised if it was someone else.
