Roadside camera shows a VW Golf driven by Andrew Vowles, 35, (inset) smashing through barriers and plunging 22ft off a road in south Wales in November 2020. Vowles managed to escape from the wreckage on the Coryton interchange in Cardiff, but his girlfriend Danielle Andrews, 28, (left) died. CCTV footage (right) from November 2020 shows the car crash before the Golf disappears into a woodland on the side of the road, turns over and finally comes to a stop on its roof. Vowles, of Caerphilly, South Wales, was jailed for seven years and six months over the crash and also banned from driving for eight years and nine months. He will have to take an extended driving test to regain his licence. The couple's night out turned to tragedy after the pair checked out of their hotel in the early hours of the morning. Knight said: 'The slip road is 250m long and it bends to the left at the top where it meets the main gyratory system where there is a set of traffic lights. The lights were showing red for 14 seconds as the defendant was travelling towards them using speeds between 62 and 64mph.'
