SUPERLEAGUE WEEK 4 HOW DID WE DO

Hi guys. 5 from 6 last week with Catalans win at Leeds being the one that eluded me. So here we go with observations for week 4.

Wakefield V Leeds

With both teams seeking their first win this is a crunch match. Leeds have been way under par and have really struggled to dominate any aspect of games so far. Wakefield on the other hand whilst probably being in a position many expected at this point in the season are playing with some fire and a little bit of belief. If Leeds finally get it together and cut out the errors then this should be a first win, however, should they not fire on all cylinders Wakey could very well turn them over.
Its a coin flip but I'll go with Leeds.

Hull Kingston Rovers V Saint Helens

HKR claimed their first win of the season last time out beating a shockingly bad Castleford side. However, Saints are in fine early season form sitting atop the table with 3 from 3 and I can't see that changing here. Hull K R will be really fired up for this and I expect the first half may be close. HKR though are a side with mistakes in them and Saints have the pace and guile to punish them ruthlessly.
Saint Helens here.

Warrington V Catalans

The tie of the round as Powells undefeated Warrington host a 2/3 Catalans team fresh from a good win at Leeds. Whilst both these teams would be confident of a top 4 finish it's Warrington who seem to have a momentum. Not that they've been playing great rugby, they haven't, but they are finding ways to win. Catalans meanwhile just play their way and then adapt on the fly as situations dictate. Catalans have a couple of injury concerns whilst Warrington should be fully fit.
Warrington but it should be close.

Toulouse V Wigan

They don't do things easy in Toulouse and having just been beaten at home by Warrington, the basement team welcome Wigan to town. Wigan, the leagues other 3/3 team are fresh from a good win over a decent Huddersfield side and whilst Toulouse are getting to the pace of Superleague more and more, this game comes too early for them to have a realistic chance of victory. Wigan I feel will win with something in hand.

Huddersfield V Salford

Both these teams suffered their first defeats last time out but whilst Huddersfield performed creditably against Wigan, Salford were hammered by a rampant Hull. Whether Salford can find a reaction to that will determine how this game plays out. Many at Huddersfield have a quiet confidence about this group of players and early performances would indicate it's not without merit.
Huddersfield to win here.

Castleford V Hull F C

Hull fresh from their 9 try demolition job on Salford will be eagerly anticipating a repeat performance against a Cas side who have been woefully abject in their first 3 games. Usually as a Cas fan I relish games against Hull, their fans travel in numbers and help create a great atmosphere, games are always hard fought and never easy to call pre match and the banter is merciless. However I fail to see where Castleford have any advantage here, their new coach Lee Radford is Hulls old coach so they will have an understanding of how he sets teams up, Hull seem stronger, faster, fitter and better organised.
Hull to win and I fear it may be by a lot. Please God I'm wrong.

Well only 4 from 6 this week as Catalans once again did the business with the performance of the week at Warrington and Castleford finally got off the mark in a thriller against Hull FC.

Elsewhere, very comfortable victories for both Saint Helens at Hull KR and Huddersfield at home to Salford whilst Leeds took the spoils at a rain lashed Wakefield.

Finally Toulouse almost pulled off an incredible shock going down at home 28 - 29 to Wigan. The week on week improvement by Toulouse should signal to the rest of SL that they aren't just here to make up the numbers.

So after round 4 I'm 15 / 18 not a bad strike rate so far. Closer games to come though.

Week 5 preview will be posted Tuesday.
