Revealed: The biggest Grand Designs budget breakers ever - from the lighthouse that remained unfinished after a decade to an eco-home which cost 5,000% more than planned (and burnt down after the episode aired) According to new research by legal firm Bond Turner, 77 per cent of all Grand Designs projects exceed their initial budget. Here FEMAIL reveals the British homes which really broke the bank...The most over-budget Grand Designs build ever was the 'Low Impact House' in Pembrokeshire, which featured in Season 17 of the show, and had an original budget of just £500 (main) but which actually cost £27,000. Meanwhile the 16th Century Farmhouse ended up costing around £300,000 - way more than the £70,000 originally forecast (bottom left), while the Huxham super modern home also cost a whopping £2.5 million (bottom centre). Famously, the Lighthouse project in Devon remains unfinished at an astonishing 66 per cent over its initial planning figures (bottom right).
