Disappointing, Annoying and Sadly Predictable

Afternoon all, hope you're well.

My morning slumbers were rudely interrupted by a phone call from one of the amazing local businesses that allow me to place CRUK collection goblets in their establishment to inform me that some person has snatched the container.

This to be honest was not entirely unexpected. I have 3 goblets out and each is serviced every 12 weeks, collecting between £40 and £50 per goblet, people are very generous. The next round of servicing was due on the 1st of April or thereabouts so the goblet would have been full.

This wasn't just a spur of the moment thing either, the CCTV shows that the person responsible took something with which they cut the chain used to secure the goblet to the counter and also they ignored a Heart Foundation collection right next to it which was emptied last week. Also they had a face covering on and a hood.

I really hope that the person who did this was truly in need of the money and that it has been used to pay their rent or feed their family, buy nappies, baby milk, gas, electricity or whatever. I don't wish them any harm, yes there's a certain amount of anger I feel but that's more to do with the blooming paperwork involved than anything else.

What about the money? Well I'm going to take the last four amounts from that location, average it out and pay it myself. Two reasons behind this. Firstly the money is from the community and they give with open hearts hoping to help make a difference. Secondly, I have a vicarious responsibility for those monies maybe not in law until collected, but certainly morally.

The chances of catching this person are virtually nil, but if in stealing the box he isn't mugging some old lady for her purse then I'm good with that. Like I said I'm hoping they use the money to improve their lot.

I shall certainly pray for them and ask God to impact their lives for good.

It's the Wifes birthday today and this kind of ruined the first couple of hours but hey, we're alive, have love, hope and happiness and I wish those things for you all but especially that person who took the collection.

Have a great day now.

Mark

How did I know you would start a debate about this? :) .

You said you were going to give £25 to Mark. Goldon has said he will go halves with you. I then said if I contributed a fiver, it makes it a tenner each for you two.

I said I was happy to send half of what he lost ie £25 of the £50 that he lost.
Goldon then said he would send £12.50.
    You said a fiver.

Whatever you guys decide I am happy to send £25.

My side of the story is that I was merely trying to do the right thing.
I was clear, before you came along, poking your nose in, and telling the rest of us what to do.
You are either confused, or cant add up.

    Lets start again.
I am happy to cover half of Marks losses, and send £25.
I am certain that before the end of the day we can fully cover his losses.
You guys send what you want, and try not to be so bossy.

If Maxally does a fiver, I am sure someone else will do another fiver before the day is out.

Guys this is really generous of you.

Please believe that I didn't post in order to elicit any money. I will PM you my bank details later this evening.

Sincerely I'm really grateful for your help.

Hello again guys, rather than send you my details I'm going to send you the bank details for the Cancer Research UK account.

I just think that doing that makes everything more transparent and preserves everybodys integrity.

    Thank you

    Mark.
