So today I got a phone call from a scammer I have had a few of these in the past.
I had a call where they said there was something wrong with my laptop and they needed to help me fix it where they claimed to be from Microsoft. When I asked which laptop as I have several laptops they could not answer and just said your laptop, I said yes but I have several so which one "your laptop" of course I am not stupid enough to be fooled by this was just toying with them.
Another call perhaps a more famous scam was I had a call which claimed to be from the inland revenue where by it said in some automated voice that I had unpaid taxes and faced criminal prosecution unless paid etc. and to press some number to speak to someone, I hung up.
I have had the reverse of this where they claim I am due a tax rebate etc as well.
Today I got a call claiming to be from my bank alleging that someone had spent $1500 on a macbook pro from my account and to press some number if this was not me.
Of course many professional banks ring up and say we are from your bank rather then saying which bank eg we are calling from barclays. also they do not mention your name for security reasons rather then saying can we speak to x they just say we are calling from your bank. Seriously I do sometimes wonder what sort of people actually fool for these sort of scams.
Anyway again I hung up, but I have before wondered should I mess with these people? my idea of messing with them would be to get the call to go as silly as possible. Pretend to be mentally ill and bring up reptilians, talk about psychic nonsense and maybe pretend to be one of those weird people who sincerely believe they have a child with an alien being. Just get the call to go on for as long as possible to talk as much crazy nonsense as possible to waste their time and have a laugh to myself whilst giving no information away, but giving them the false hope that they might be able to get me.
However some people have informed me not to do this because apparently they can hack or trace the call and get more and more info as the conversation goes on is this true? I have always hung up to be safe rather then continue, but if their is no risk of this I really want to just completely mess with these guys sometimes.
