    Hi Rondo

In the case of SPT Glasgow, an ante is a "Big Blind Ante", so once every orbit, when you are the Big Blind, you have to pay it in addition to your Big Blind. So, in effect, you pay a double Big Blind.

"Patient with new live players". Absolutely. If you are struggling, ask for me & I'll find someone to help ease you in.

Ideally, if you've not played Live Poker before, maybe go play a little £20 or £30 Live Tournament somewhere before SPT Glasgow, then you'll be fine.

    Hi @Rondo

When I played my first ever Live tournament (UKPC @ DTD Nottingham with SKYPoker), I was pretty nervous, so once I'd found out my seat and table number from the numerous screens around the casino, I went over and had a quick word with the Dealer, to let him know I was a 'newby'. They're normally very understanding, and will help you as much as they can.

I don't know if you have been playing the SPT Glasgow sat's to win a seat (or two or more), but it's very worthwhile. Obviously you (hopefully) get in cheaper if you win a seat/seats (defo worth having as many as you can up to 4) in case you bust-out early in the LIVE Tourney, or want to play both day 1's.

You will also see players in the sat's, who will be at SPT Glasgow, and if you get chatting at the tables (sat's or Live), you will make friends for life ...... as I, and many others have :)

Sadly I won't be at SPTGlasgow, but there's some great people who will be......led by Tony @Tikay10 . Make sure you go out of your way to meet him, as he will help you at your first Live Tourney.

As for 'patient with new Live Players' ......people usually are, but they will be using that knowledge to their advantage, and you will probably get 'bullied off pots' ......just remember 'They don't ALWAYS have it!' :)

GOOD LUCK .....and most importantly .....enjoy it. Live Poker is a great experience, especially with SKYPoker and the people who run it.

Hi, I'm going to play the Glasgow event and my mate wants to play too. Can you buy on the day at the event for cash? My mate doesn't have a sky poker account and doesnt want to create one. Do you need to create a sky poker account to be able to play? Thanks

Yes you can buy in on the day without having to have a SKYPoker account. Definitely worth turning up at least an hour (if not 2 hours) before play commences, to avoid going on the waiting list.

    GOOD LUCK :)

Although I have never played in an SPT live event before, I only ever hear good things about them. Being a new player to live poker shouldn't be much of a problem at them.

Just a couple of tips I can think of that may help.

Imagine the table being an online table. Everything basically works in the same fashion.

I think the most common mistake new live players make is a string bet. It is when not placing a bet all in one motion. New players sometimes tend to try and count their chips as they are placing the bet, and therefore fall foul of the string bet rule. As long as you verbally announce your intentions (call or the amount you want to raise) before acting, that will absolve any issues.

Protect your cards at all times. Either by placing a chip on top of them or some lucky charm. This is especially important if you are seated either side of the dealer, because if your cards inadvertently end up in the muck, they will be dead (and you'll automatically lose any chips invested in the pot)

As misty4me says, if you are registering on the day, try to arrive in plenty of time. From memory, there was a large waiting list at the previous event. The Alea casino, though, is situated in a retail park (along with a cinema, bowling, nandos and such) so there will be plenty of opportunity to kill time if need be.

    Most of all, enjoy yourself.

    Good luck!

And most important of all - DO NOT ACT OUT OF TURN.

We can't act out of turn Online, but we can Live, & it's really really important that we don't. (It affects the play of others at the table).
