I was havin a few drinks last night playin some tunes and ma wife asked what is ma all time fav song, ah really couldn't give a definitive answer, Ah thought about it and my mind was changin everytime ah poured a hawf.
So ah thought back to the first songs or bands that struck a cord with me, some had a wee bit of significance but most are just good tunes that ah liked at the time , so ah had a wee reminisce and these are songs or bands that have stuck out through the years, a few weird ones.

61/71

Honeycombs - Have I The Right, The first song ma mum put on the turntable when she came in from a night out at the weekend, still a great song.
The Beatles - Yesterday, The first Beatles song ah ever heard.
Johnny Cash – Folsom Prison Blues, played every weekend.

71/81

Lieutenant Pigeon - Mouldy Old Dough, First record ah ever bought, ah think ah was 10/11 years old.
Chelsea FC - Blue is the Colour, bought the same day, **** if ah know why.
Jo Jo Gunne - "Run, Run, Run"
Bay City Rollers – Keep On Dancing, When ah was a young teenager they would always play these 2 songs at the Speedway when the show's were in town, loved they songs.
Hawkwind – Silver Machine, For a few different reasons.
The Jam – Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, for years were ma fav band and fav song.
Punk - Too many songs to mention.
Joy Division - New Dawn Fades, great song among many.

81/91

The Associates - Party Fears Two, Billy Mackenzie one of the most underated singers.
Simple Minds - I Travel, Loads of good early songs
New Order – Blue Monday, enough said.
Love And Money - Strange Kind Of Love, great album, Saw them in the Barrowlands ( supposed to be their final gig ), sneaked into the VIP party, full of actors and singers, got flung oot 15 minutes later with a pocket full of canapes.
The eighties were a bit of a haze to be honest.

91/Present

Nivana - Nevermind, for me one of the best 3 ground breaking albums, the others being **** and OK Computer.
Foo Fighters.
PJ Harvey.
QOTSA.
Pearl Jam.
Depeche Mode.
Ah could pick dozens of songs from these groups.
Future Islands ( watch Letterman on you tube, brill ).
And finally the best band in the world, Radiohead.

All subjective of course.

That's a fairly diverse collection of tastes there rab.

Let's see how your knowledge is. The very first song you mention was covered by a famous Scottish person.

Who was the person and what was the band .

Think it was Midge Ure and the Rich Kids OR the Dead Ends Kids

It was the Dead End Kids. Not to be confused with the Rich Kids, with Midge Ure.

Midge was in Thin Lizzy (I think) at that time. Before replacing the tremendous John Foxx and turning Ultravox from a wonderful band into a dull one (albeit a lot wealthier).

The original by the Honeycombs is brilliant.

Ok Computer is incredible, of course, but I think Kid A as an album from start to finish is something so special, particularly with headphones on, and would be my personal favourite Radiohead album. Only 2 or 3 albums make me want to stop whatever I'm doing and just listen to them entirely. Kid A being one of them.

I just don't get Radiohead. Seems like music to slit your wrists to. But I understand they have massive appeal so it's just me.

    And me.

Think it meets the need for people who missed Prog Rock first time.

But that's the beauty of music. Very much like 1 man's antique is another's old tat. They give pleasure to millions.

‘How To Disappear Completely’ is supposed to be Thom Yorke's fav song, Kid A is tremendous as well.

Ma mates all say that to me, but most of them are stuck in the 70's, or like karaoke music. :) .

Weird innit ? i thought Ultravox were so much better after Midge joined and Lizzy so much better after he left. Mind you Gary Moore would make most guitarists sound poor.
