A man guilty of dangerous driving who sarcastically thanked the judge and called him an ‘absolute helmet’ could be sent to jail for longer.
Levi Cull, 25, was involved in a police chase in Bolton which saw him drive 60mph on the wrong side of the road, run a red light and drive across a busy junction without stopping.
He then crashed his Mercedes and sent the other vehicle into a parked car, then struck a fence, another car, flipped and landed on its roof.
Cull later admitted dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
Prosecuting, Harriet Lavin told Bolton Crown Court yesterday that Cull was initially spotted by a police officer at around 2.30pm attempting to ‘duck his head’ and turn down a side street away from the vehicle.
Cull, of Langshaw Walk, has 10 previous convictions for 26 offences.
Nick Ross, defending, said: ‘The defendant has recognised that he has a lot of growing up to do. He holds his hands up.’
He added the vehicle was not stolen, and there were no ‘serious injuries’ to anyone despite the crash being ‘dramatic’.
Judge Martin Walsh, honorary recorder of Bolton, jailed Cull for 14 months and banned him from driving for three years.
But following his sentence Cull, who appeared in court via a video link, said: ‘Thank you very much you absolute helmet. In a bit mate.’
The judge then indicated Cull will be brought back for contempt of court, which could mean his sentence will be added to.
