Well the last exam is done and I am back. I genuinely dont know how that went I was neurotic throughout.
I think it may be a grade 3 which is not great but I can live with I hope it is a grade 2 I cant see it at all been possible for me to have failed or to get a grade 1.
I think a grade 4 would be a very nasty shock and I hope that is not the case I do not think it will be I worked out the marks I think I got something which is never accurate and got possible grade 2 or grade 3 it was a nasty exam so hopefully the grade curve boosts me up.

Note the way things are phrased and questions are asked you can usually generally tell if it would have been hard or easy for the general population sitting the exam.

I think I abosultely smashed the question which was on the topic that I specifically chose a whole degree to learn about in the first place and put a lot of focus into studying. the supposed easy question everyone usually gets the most marks on had a nasty twist in it so I dont think I got as many marks there as would have liked but still think i got most of the marks.

the other two questions I am not so sure on but I think i did alright. I gave myself 86% for the the second question I generally think there is a chance I might have got 100% on that but always take a few marks away from questions with lots of marks because it always seems something may be missing etc.

the final question I attempted I think I ballsed up and ended up rushing but thats because you had to choose questions and not answer every question and I had chosen all the questions I intended to answer and then had to choose one more and every question looked horrible remaining but every question I had answered up to that point I think I did well in. I would go on but who cares hope I did alright.

Likely wont be too active on here tonight because tonight is Diablo2 gaming night with Pizza whilst my girlfriend plays skyrim tonight is a gaming and pizza night. and then likely wont be on much tomorrow as going to have a night out with the girlfriend. probs be on more on weekend.

multiple regression well technically I was always interested in how multiple variables interacting can be measured. You see at GCSE and A level you work out the correlation coefficient for 2 variables or the linear regression for two variables. However some real life examples can be much more complicated then this quite often you can have a situation where A and B have a correlation however the nature of this correlation is affected by variable C and the nature of how variable C affects the relationship between variables A and B is affected further by variable D.

this is not covered at A level and is only a final year of degree syllabus because it gets complicated though I didnt find it so. some degrees would only cover it at masters though COWI unis probably cover it as a year two module. I was with open uni though.

Welcome back and seriously hope you smashed those exams.

Do you have a 2.1 or a 2.2 Winni waiting in the wings ? if not, why not?

thanks for the good vibes all. So I have not finished My OU degree this year I cant study full time on top of working. I was planning on finishing everything next year but then realized if I did that I would struggle to get a 2.1 where as if I pace myself over two years I should get a 2.1 relatively easily and possibly if some miracle a first.

The open Uni grading system is a bit odd and hard to explain, but you dont get 2.1 or 2.2 you get grade 1 grade 2 grade 3 grade 4 or fail.

    a lot of people say that a grade 1 is a first grade 2 is a 2.1 grade 3 is 2.2 and grade 4 is a third

However you could get a grade 2 in everything and one module a grade grade 3 in a year two module and only two modules grade 1 in level 3 module and you would get a first.

OU modules are 30 credit modules not 20. You might say yes but most UNIs allow you to take your best modules and discount the worst in some sort of way. Well nope The OU has an aggregate count system that awards certain points per grade 2 or grade 3 etc. and if your points are low enough you get a first. Yeah they work on some sort of golf like system lower score better so total score of 600 better then total score of 900. You get more points for a grade 3 then you do a grade 2 etc.

If you wanted a 2.1 you could get with scoring grade 3 in all level two modules and one level 3 module and three grade 2s in level 3. Of course if you wanted to get 2.2 you would need every final year module to be a grade 3 and one level 2 module to also be grade 3 and everything else could be grade 4.

So a grade one is equivalent to at least a first where as grade 2 is equivalent to a high 2.1/low first. and grade 3 is kind of equivalent to grade 2.2 or just scraping 2.1.

Ultimately the end aim is to get a good understanding for personal use or for the degree to get me a job. If getting a third got me a job in statistics and I had learned the stuff well enough for my own understanding and purposes then a third would be a fine grade to get. Ultimately though in most cases you need a 2.1 in order to get a job. I know not always but it makes things a lot easier with a 2.1 then a 2.2.

the OU also has a wonderful thing where by you dont get aggregate scores just the grade 1 2 3 or 4 etc. EG you need 55%+ to get a grade 3 but need 70% plus for a grade 2 and 85% for a grade 1. if I score 69 that is a grade 3 and I get the points for a grade 3 not aggregate score. eg if I scored 54 in one module and 69 in another assuming they are the same level you might think that averages out to 61.5 so is the equivalent of getting 2 grade 3s but no because 69 is worth just as much as 55 both score grade 3 so getting 69 on my exam would literally be exactly the same as getting 55 for score towards degree.

on counting up my score looking through the exam questions this morning still had tab with questions open I scored myself in the region of 65-72 but 2 marks were missing from the last question which is clearly an oversight and so I dont know where those two marks would be so I guess I should say 65-74
I could score a lot lower but going below 55 seems unlikely. I could also score higher but that seems unlikely maybe I did get full marks for the long questions which had lots of marks I felt I answered them well and fully but then I do waffle on fail to say stuff succinctly and could lose a few marks so I just took a few marks off the long questions. What if I got that forumula right which I was confused on I gave myself 2/4 for that if I got it right it is 4/4 I basically worked out what I thought I got then took conservative marks so If i got all the marks I thought I should then I score 72 exactly. if I got all that and got the formula bit right I get 74 or that two mark explanation I wasnt sure on so gave myself 0 and then the missing two marks I could score 78 but I doubt that.

There isnt a 2.1 Winni or a 2.2 Winni there is A winni that trys to take crisps and chocolates away from me saying they are for maths and stats graduates and Doublemes girlfriend only. (note girlfriends name but she wouldnt want me saying on forums)

anyway probably shouldnt over think it I get what I get cant change anything now.
grade 2 is what i am hoping for
grade 3 is what I think it will be I can live with that
    grade 4 would be horrific
failing would be even worse but would be utterly shocked if that happened
