    I would imagine that unless you put the horses number down on your bet the bookies will either have to pay out on all Sierra Nevada claims (yeah like that's ever happening) or void them all.

    You would think that bookmakers and punters would be aware of this and would take steps to ensure which of the two was being backed.

    Exchanges would be different as each transaction is identifiable as to which selection it belongs.

    Now if one had won and the other placed that would have really been an Oopsie moment.

    I never bet on horses but I'm thinking online betting here, would they not have colours next to what ever horses you're betting on?
