Tragedy of family of Irish TV journalist Aideen Kennedy: Mother-of-two's death aged 43 means her heartbroken parents have now outlived all four of their children who died before the age of 45

Tributes were paid at the funeral in Belfast for an Irish TV journalist and mother-of-two who was the last surviving sibling of four children - all of whom died before the age of 45. Aideen Kennedy, 43, was best known from her time as a reporter with UTV, the ITV region covering Northern Ireland, died in hospital last week just hours after revealing on Twitter that she was receiving palliative care for a terminal illness. Ms Kennedy, from Belfast, was the last surviving sibling of four children. She, her sister Fiona and brothers Rory and Dara have all now died before their parents, Maura and Noel (pictured top right). The reporter's older sister, Fiona, died from cancer in 2016 at the age of 44, less than a year after their brother Dara died from a brain tumour aged 35. Their older brother Rory was killed in a road accident when he was just a year old. Retired cleric Father Sean McCartney, who also presided at the funerals of Fiona and Dara, told the congregation for a Requiem Mass at the Good Shepherd Church in Belfast (pictured) that he was not aware of another couple who had suffered so much loss.

I would like to think that my faith would hold through such trauma but I could not with any confidence say that it would.

I often think of "The Book Of Job", where God allows The Devil to test Job's faith. Job, a successful man loses everything, wife, children, cattle and even his property but never turns away from God even when his friends point out the futility of his faith.

The Devil is unable to turn Job from God and admits defeat and gives up. God blesses Job and in time he starts another family and business and becomes even richer than before.

I always feel a real disappointment that God never reveals his reasons for allowing the suffering of Job.

I'd like to think that it's Gods way of highlighting that although faith does not mean an easy passage through life, and as Christians the New Testament promises us pain and difficulty, but that in holding fast to that faith we are ultimately rewarded as promised.

It is the strength of faith, that these people show that inspires me to become better in my own.

A terribly sad story that should make us all feel guilty about the trivial stuff that we like to moan about.
