Are you all scared to talk

DazlerDazler Member Posts: 3,970
Not sure why but back in the day the chat boxes were really active but these days no one says a word. I miss a good old chin wag in the chat box and is how i got to know people on here other than just the forum. It makes the game go by much quicker and more fun but now its just boring. If you see me at the table please have a natter even if you want to just tell me how bad i am, at least it will give me something to do while im waiting to get knocked out :)

its not so much that people are scared to talk its that people can have other things going on. I can be chatty if I am on casual mode where I just have the odd table or two going. But sometimes I am playing across 3 sites with over 20 tables in total going and I simply cant start chatting.

Sometimes when I am in casual mode too I have other things going on such as talking to my girlfriend, watching netflix, playing heros of might and magic 3 or even doing an assignment for university.

Its not that people somehow fear that the chat could give away the strength or lack thereof of their holdings or anything silly like that. I think there are very few players on sky who could get a meaningful read on something like that.

you have the regs who likely have a lot of tables going and then you have the casuals who could often have other things going as well.

I'm sure we've had the occasional chat @Dazler.

I find the PLO8 tables are the usually only ones where there is any sort of banter going on in the chat boxes. It's 95% friendly too, which makes a change.

As has been said, those that are playing seriously and multi tabling, usually don't have the time for chat, it is almost certainly not +ev!

Depends on the chat - I see most of it and is your patter good Dazler? Your name is a decent start......

Normally have a couple of things on at the same time ranging from Facebook (very important ofc) Whatsapp, Groups, Zoom and general nonsense YouTube videos and TV on the background sometimes.

As said PLO8 tables are friendly - the 19:45 Omaha can be ok too. TDYM is another one which overall is good for chat vs the MTT stuff.

I don't chat on a mini grind really doing MTTs even 2/3 tabling. That's just myself - others and regs will be playing more tables and assume less likely to chat.

Never played at the same table as yourself however will look out for you.

Times have changed @Dazler, folks multi-task these days, & many of them have their own platforms where they chat & goss with their mates - WhatsApp, IM, Message, Discord etc, & prefer to chat that way.

Online Poker has changed beyond recognition, not always for the better, & you'll see plenty more changes in the coming years.

Sad in some ways, but that's how it is.

Gone are the days where you could have a good old natter with Tikay during the £22 deepstack every Tuesday.

    @Dozza

I think most players would consider that a good thing..... ;)

The Orfy is about the only low buy in tourney where you can get some dialogue going at the moment.

The deepstacks seem to be played by "Serious" players who seem incapable of interacting and withdraw like its a 1K buy in event.

The late night freezeouts used to be great for some good bants and chat but alas that seems to have all but died away.

For a social game it seems that poker is becoming anti social.

I think more & more players multi-table these days, so that does make it awkward to chat.

Do find this too and miss the social aspect in a live environment although not as much as I would have in the past. Used to play a lot more live years back and really enjoyed my Casino and Home Game visits each time as would bump into a couple of familiar faces or at least recognize a fair few of them.

Not to hark back to the "good old days" too much, things were different then. Personally live poker helped bring me out my shell as a quiet teenager/early 20s chap. Game seemed to be played in better spirits - no HUDs, no real training sites, headphones were fairly rare, less mobiles at the tables and no live bots

Always appreciated the regs chat at the tables even when not involved in it - you would get the odd joker, table bully and boisterous type and it was just simply more fun to play in.
