Thanks to those who came up with various suggestions to improve the Results Threads, yesterday's missive seemed to be reasonably well-received, so we'll continue to experiment & try different things. There was some feedback - thank you - which I'll try to reply to when time permits.
Today we end with an odd piece featuring a poker player convicted of murder. Proper murder. You do get to meet some characters in poker.

Doubleme won the Main, & I could not be more delighted.
He's quite an unusual character, certainly not your run of the mill Forum poster & as a result gets subjected to a fair bit of mocking. Luckily, it does not seem to bother him one iota. Just because someone is different does not make them bad. I don't think I especially like or dislike him, but it's a function of my nature to be defensive about those who get a lot of stick. It's not a deliberate thing, I just can't help it. I've been on the wrong end of constant abuse, especially as a backward child, & it leaves scars. I've had more than my share of trolling too, & it's not a pleasant experience. (Helpful hint - NEVER respond to trolls - it drives them nuts when you ignore them). Anyway, I just wanted to say well done bud, I'm absolutely made up for you.
His Sharky graph is looking pretty neat too. As far as I can tell, this is his biggest win (on Sky Poker) ever, his previous best being 6th in a Sunday Major for about £700 at the end of May.
To use the current hip phrase, love to see it.

How many convicted murderers have you met?
An odd question perhaps, but we get to meet all sorts at the poker tables, and in my case, that includes at least 5 players who have been convicted of murder. A pretty odd stat if you think about it - how many convicted murderers have you been on regular speaking terms with, & spent hours sharing poker tables?The first was a chap who I originally got to know in the virtual world of The Hendon Mob Forum back in the day when it was the biggest poker forum in Europe. Later, I got to meet him at Gutshot Club, an illegal spieler in Clerkenwell Road East London which opened in about 2004. It was quite the place, thoroughly uncomfortable to be rammed in a sweltering basement, but to be fair, most poker venues were awful until DTD came along & changed the whole scene for the better. It also happened to be the breeding ground for so much British talent, including Roland de Wolfe, Praz Bansi & the original Hit Squad, James Akenhead, Sam Grafton & many more too numerous to mention.
It also happened to be the venue for one of my biggest wins, and it was quite scary when I went to collect & they said "come back in a few days, we don't have the cash right now.....". Imagine the hoohah if that happened today. The UKGC get plenty of stick, but they have helped clean up the game. Maybe another day I ought to write a piece about Gutshot. It really was quite a place.
Anyway, back to our murderer. He went by the alias of Mad Yank (he was an American), real name Ron Fanelli, and whilst he was a Gutshot regular, he was probably better known as a cash game regular at The Vic. Maybe if he sees this @NChanning might comment, as he knew Ron very well I assume, as Neil was in The Vic every night in those days.
I'm really not sure why, but whilst he gave almost everyone a hard time - he was an especially aggressive & confrontational Poster - especially on Hendon Mob Forum, he seemed to go easy on me, & we got along just fine.
Then he went to Thailand, and that's when things got ugly.
He was much liked by Vicky Coren. As you probably know, she's a fabulous writer, & I'll let her take up the story via a truly wonderful piece she wrote for The Guardian.
WARNING - it's pretty distressing stuff, including chopping up a body & stuffing it in a suitcase to dispose of.
Here's the Guardian article by Vicky;
Ron Fanelli was my friend. How did he go on to be a murderer?
He was sentenced to 10 years, served his time, & the last I heard he had returned to his homeland of the USA.What a tale, huh? Arguably, that was nothing compared to the next convicted murderer that I - & all the other poker circuit regulars at the time - got to meet. He really was a lovely bloke - or so we all thought. That's another story for another day, depending if Results Thread readers enjoy that sort of thing. And if you don't, well you have yourselves to blame, as you did ask for tales from the tables.
More of the same please.
