A blind trust is one where the beneficiary has no control or indeed even a say over the way the Trust operates. This means that there is no potential conflict of interest with, say, running a country.
Harman's face was thunder. Boris was as agile as a cat. Pure box office but, after four nit-picking hours, had a single mind been changed? SARAH VINE reviews ex-PM's battle to clear his name and salvage his career over Partygate
SARAH VINE: Not since Johnny Depp took on Amber Heard has a courtroom drama been so hotly anticipated. The Captain Jack Sparrow of British politics, buccaneer and charming rogue Boris Johnson, in the dock in front of his peers, fighting not just to clear his name but also to salvage his career. If politics is showbiz for ugly people, then this was pure Westminster box office. Ostensibly about whether or not Johnson knew that he was misleading parliament in relation to Partygate, in reality yesterday's hearing was about so much more.
Boris comes out swinging: Johnson loses his cool in three-hour showdown with MPs as he denies lying to Commons about No10 gatherings and says leaving parties were 'essential'
Boris Johnson said he had 'hand on heart' believed that rules were followed in No10 as he battled to clear his name in a bad-tempered three-hour showdown with the Privileges Committee.
DAN WOOTTON: Westminster's crooked kangaroo court tried its hardest, but failed to produce any smoking gun against Boris Johnson. This deranged witch hunt must now fail for the sake of British democracy
DAN WOOTTON: Without any legal norms or protections, Boris was subjected to over three hours of state sanctioned harassment over the most tedious technicalities of so-called 'gatherings'.
DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Farcical show trial demeans democracy
DAILY MAIL COMMENT: One great big, honking whopper was told during Boris Johnson's inquisition by the Commons privileges committee… and it did not come from the former prime minister.
'Administer the oath!' How Boris Johnson's Partygate showdown played out in front of MPs after Harriet Harman fired the starting gun
After months of build-up, leaks and behind-the-scenes squabbles, Boris Johnson finally had his 'day in court' yesterday before the committee of MPs judging whether he lied to parliament.
ANDREW NEIL: I left the BBC after 25 years during Covid. A leaving party never crossed my mind - but they had TWO in No10 the very same month
ANDREW NEIL: BBC leaving do during Covid didn't cross my mind. No10 had two! ANDREW NEIL: Things started so well for Boris Johnson (left and bottom-right, being interviewed by Neil). His opening statement to the Commons privileges committee investigating whether he misled parliament about various parties and gatherings in 10 Downing Street during the pandemic was concise, clear, convincing, robust and combative. This, I thought, is a new Johnson. I wasn't surprised. He's fighting for his political life and nothing is more important to Boris Johnson than Boris Johnson. The prospect of his political demise, which is within the power of the committee to bring about, had concentrated his mind, engendering a new focus and purpose to his testimony.
At the very core of that lying ar5ewipe's defence is this.
It is necessary for functioning of Government that leaving do's/parties for his staff/mates take place, regardless of the fact that they did not meet the safety standards set by Boris Johnson.
As opposed to people dying alone in hospitals and care homes. Whose families were not allowed to appear at their relatives' rather more important leaving do's.
I am certain that he would be quite entertaining as an after dinner speaker, but a Prime Minister.............? How could that possibly happen? We must have been a laughing stock. Lets hope his political life is over.

"Blind Trust"?
What's that all about?
Phil?
It also means they can avoid public scrutiny.
It is all splendid in theory....
