Personally, I always used to give a warning first. I would stand there next to the bails, and say next time they were coming off.
What people need to appreciate is that the first unsportsmanlike move is the non-striker setting off for a single before the ball is bowled. In its own way, that is seeking an advantage, and (IMO) is no different from the risk a batsman takes by taking guard outside the crease.
But there are lots of people with very different opinions on this.

^^^^ Just a bit.
I'm conflicted, & I sway back & forth between both arguments. It feels such a scummy play - but it is within the rules, & we must remember that the batter IS out of their ground.
I'm in the camp that says you should give a warning first. I have never been victim to this but I feel it is something that goes against the spirit of the game.
I must admit, there is no way I'd have been shaking hands with them after.
As an aside surely once the umpire has made the dead ball motion any action after that is invalid. He definately does this as the bowler stops and turns.

Then watch it from the side angle, the outcome is just, OUT.
An interesting postscript today....
