Britons are told to prepare for three-hour blackouts 'from 4pm to 7pm' this winter: National Grid boss warns households face rolling power-cuts in January and February if UK fails to secure enough gas from Europe under 'worst case' scenario British households should prepare for blackouts 'between 4pm and 7pm' over the winter, the boss of National Grid has warned. John Pettigrew (pictured top) said the firm, which oversees the UK's electricity and gas networks, would need to introduce rolling power cuts on 'really, really cold' weekdays in January and February (newsreader Alan Rogers pictured bottom right having to resort to candles in 1972) if the UK failed to secure enough natural gas from Europe. He said the first two months of next year were of particular concern, and a shortage of fuel for gas-fired power stations - which generate a large portion of the UK's power - combined with slow wind speeds and lower imports of electricity from Europe would put strain on the grid.

Not with Russia. With our own unelected Junta.
Official Government documents reveal a plan (right) for UK households to have three-hour blackouts at least three times a week if Russian President Vladimir Putin restricts gas supplies to Europe this winter. There have been warnings that Russia, who are accused of sabotaging the Nord Stream pipelines, may cut their gas supply and use the colder months as a weapon against the West for its support for Ukraine. Here, MailOnline shows you how you can find out exactly when your household would be affected by power cuts and for how long.

Ministers have 'war gamed' emergency plans to cope with week-long blackouts this winter, it has emerged. Government documents marked 'official sensitive' warn that food and water supplies, transport and communications could all be severely disrupted for up to seven days in a 'reasonable worst-case scenario' in the event of a national power outage. Whitehall officials are stress-testing Programme Yarrow - the secret plan to cope with blackouts which includes prioritising getting food, water and shelter to the young and elderly, as well as those with caring responsibilities - amid fears that Russian aggression in Ukraine has sparked an energy crisis this winter. It comes as the Met Office warns of an increased chance of a colder-than-usual winter this year which could put further pressure on gas and electricity supplies.
