can employers legally get away with not paying their workers

the immediate response would be absolutely not.
However what happens if an employer denies you worked their or says you cannot proof you worked those hours then what sort of response could one have? like how would one prove that they did work there?

well it was just anxiety because I have had a situation in the past where I had not been [paid. The kitchen I had been working at said they would pay me last day of the month i checked at midnight was not in checked just now is in.

So went in at 6am ish. Though is one thing I have always wondered as I was burned several years back.

Me dad and me did a 1st fix, it was about 25/30 years ago we put the stairs in fitted all the stud work all door frames, window boards etc then we were laid off after finishing it, they promised to pay us a week later no money they ignored all calls 2 weeks went by totally ignored
So one Saturday morning we went to the site knowing nobody would be there by this time it had been plaster boarded so we began the process of nailing the floor boards where the copper pipes lay underneath
We often wondered what happened and how much it cost the guy who didn't pay us

So for context I have not been paid from work on three occasions in the past all these events are at least five years ago.
    1. was a restaurant I walked out of mid shift because My boss was swearing at me and been very abusive and I said I dont appreciate that so he said if you dont like it leave so I did. I never got my final pay packet.
    2. working for a double glazing firm most of the big names in double glazing screw their workers over with pay its done by blurring the line between self employed and employed etc
    3. A temping agency though this one I started legal action against and they just paid me without saying anything 2 months late.

recently I was worried I was going to be screwed over by the kitchen I was working at because I Checked at midnight of the day it was due in and nothing had come in. Since I had been burned in the past I was wondering what the **** I could do if they did not pay me.

However the pay went through at sometime between when I went to bed and woke up so sometime between quatre past midnight and 6.20 am.

So to be clear I was paid but I was worried last night that I would be screwed on pay again and thought well if they do can I even do anything about it?

Checked wage slip and was paid exactly as should have been. Though this does make me wonder if an employer did try to screw me over what could I do what could anyone do?

If they don't pay you, they are now paying less then the minimum wage and they usually cough up when they find out they have been reported.

Report your employer to HM Revenue and Customs.

again as stated I was paid right I was just anxious when it was not in at midnight.

with regards to work over 5 years ago I do not think there is much i can do about that today but it is good to note for future reference if I get screwed at some point in the future.

I wasn't really the money Its more that I wouldnt like someone to exploit me but this did not happen.
