I was watching a bit of true crime yesterday morning.
I was amazed by one episode.
For anyone that wants to dispute my account, or just wishes to watch the episode, it can be found under the above title, on the Crime+Investigation channel, on demand.
The particular episode is series 1 episode 7.
I would suggest that anyone that intends to watch it, should do so before reading further.
So cutting a long story short.
A woman returns home from church to find her husband had been shot dead.
He was lying in a pool of blood with a number of boot prints surrounding the body.
They checked the footwear of the family.
As there were no matches, it was assumed the boot prints belonged to the killer.
The murdered mans truck was missing.
The police received a phone fairly quickly, informing them that the truck had been seen that morning parked outside a guy called Ericks trailer.
They immediately shoot around to Ericks, he wont answer the door, so they wait.
They locate the truck a short distance up the road, so they recover it.
A short time later, they get a search warrant, deploy some chemicals into the trailer, Eric opens the door, and they take him in for an interview.
Erick immediately gives them an alibi, saying he was at work when the murder took place.
While the interview continued they phone his boss to check his alibi.
His boss tells them he had fired Erick the previous Friday, therefore he hadnt been to work that day.
This was the first setback.
The second was that when he crossed his legs in the interview, one of the officers noted that the soles of his boots looked very similar to the prints left at the scene.
They take his boots off him, and they prove to be an exact match.
They have his fingerprints on file because he has been in trouble before.
So when the prints, and dna found in the truck match his, he is on his way to prison.
When he gets to prison he is allowed a phone call.
Eric chooses to phone his boss with a view to persuade him to back his alibi.
Unbeknown to Eric, when he phoned, his boss was in the middle of a live interview with a local TV crew.
So with the camera running, and sound being recorded his boss answered the phone, and put him on speaker.
This is how the conversation went,
"They said I murdered somebody"
"Where were you Sunday, Erick? Did you do it or not"?
"Yeah, I killed him".
Mastermind Of Murder.
