Secret plan to unravel Brexit: Lord Frost warns secret summit on 'making relations with the EU better' is further evidence of plot to unravel exit deals and have UK 'stay shadowing Brussels'

As senior politicians stage summit on future links with Europe, top Tory warns of plot
Lord Frost last night warned of a plot to undermine Brexit after leading Remainers held a secret summit on EU relations. The Tory peer said the gathering of prominent politicians, business chiefs and ex-civil servants showed a will to unravel the deal he helped negotiate with Brussels. And in a clear attack on the Government, he said ministers did not need to fix Brexit but rather implement it in full - instead of raising taxes. Among those at last week's country house meeting were Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy, ex-Tory European minister David Lidington and Theresa May's Brexit negotiator Olly Robbins.

Secret summit 'to make Brexit work better': Michael Gove, Labour front benchers and arch-Remainer Lord Mandelson 'join conference on improving UK's ties with EU'

Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove joined a two-day conference looking at ways of improving cooperation with the EU.

Look who's back! Mandy, Lord of the Remoaners: ANDREW PIERCE the principal players at the secret 'make Brexit work better' summit

It was surely the most remarkable cross-party summit in recent political history. At Ditchley Park, shadow minister David Lammy 'addressed Brexit's failings'.

STEPHEN GLOVER: I find it hard to believe this was an innocent meeting whose only purpose was to apply a little tender loving care to the Brexit process

STEPHEN GLOVER: Some people will say there is nothing very sinister about the cross-party pow-wow about Brexit which took place in the beautiful surroundings of Ditchley Park in Oxfordshire.

    It is not "unravelling" Brexit.

It is the UK and the EU trying to improve their trading relationship. By having a rather better deal than Lord Frost managed.

    Which should not be difficult.

    That is true,
However, whatever "the deal" is, it will not satisfy the DUP, or ERG.

Not 2 organisations known for their willingness to compromise :)

I hope and trust that any new deal will fail to satisfy the DUP, the ERG, elements of Sinn Fein, and various others.

But will satisfy realistic people who want to compromise. Will it be perfect? Of course not. But the deal is likely to be a whole lot better than the mess we have currently. Arranged by people rather more capable than Frost and Von Der Leyen.

I always felt that there was a delicious irony in the unelected mandarin Lord Frost criticising unelected mandarins in the EU...

It seems that unless the border goes, the DUP will not be happy.
    This is impossible.
It is strange that they are unhappy about the post brexit trade checks.
Where they didnt complain about the checks that occurred while we were members.
The ERG are bound to kick off at any closer ties to the EU, which seem inevitable if a deal is done.
Many of the protagonists seem to put forward ridiculous arguments.
Surely logic dictates that the plan for divergence from the EU in the longer term will result in more checks rather than less.

Sinn Fein have just been on the telly, and seem really happy with the way things are going, which almost guarantees that the DUP wont be.

Northern Ireland politicians (or, at least, a lot of them) seem forever to be searching for some sort of Nirvana. Rather than a slightly better version of the World we actually live in.

So-instead of the usual "red lines" nonsense. How about the real-life yardstick that the rest of us use in our lives:-

Will the new deal actually be better than what they have currently got? Yes. Or No.

    It's really not difficult.

The only solution as far as Sunak is concerned is surely less checks.
The ERG, are standing by the DUP.
They will not be happy with.
If the legislation is got through with Labour support, it will create more mayhem in the Tory Party.

Whatever they come up with will be a solution for the present time.
However if the long term plan is to diverge from the EU, then the number of border checks has to increase.

One of the DUP sticking points is the border, which has to remain in place.
More elections in NI are unlikely to help.
