I find it odd that people want to apply their own moral standards, and their own timelines, to what is inevitably an evolving subject.
To give 1 example from an MPs outburst yesterday. She finds it inconceivable, and disgusting, that children receive guidance in relation to safe "chokeplay".
When I was young (well, less old
), such things were rarely seen or discussed. Thanks to the internet, such things are so commonplace as to be routine. Various sexual practices have moved from extreme to mainstream. Not saying that that is right, or desirable-just that education needs to move with the times.
Lots of young men and young women are going to try it. Now-imagine your daughter is trying it. Would you like her, and her partner, to have received guidance on the dangers if doing certain things in certain ways. Or not? Because IMHO the word "safe" is rather more important than the word "chokeplay".
There is always a balancing act. It needs to be remembered that, not only should sex education be age-appropriate, but also different schoolkids mature (mentally as well as physically) at different rates. That balancing act is inevitably going to cause problems. And also solve problems and even save lives.
