Gary's back, & has some wonderful words

Gary Lineker is back, & after he & the BBC had sorted that stuff out, he Tweeted this....

"A final thought: however difficult the last few days have been, it simply doesn’t compare to having to flee your home from persecution or war to seek refuge in a land far away. It’s heartwarming to have seen the empathy towards their plight from so many of you."

Isn't that just wonderful?

    He also Tweeted this....

We remain a country of predominantly tolerant, welcoming and generous people. Thank you."

I'm not sure about that, we still have a small % of people who object to asylum seekers for all the wrong reasons, but I'd like to believe it.

One day, it will be understood that no matter where we come from, or what colour our skin is, we are all equal. And we are getting there.

This dispute makes a number of things abundantly clear,
1 The BBC management is pretty useless.
2 The BBC rules need to be clearer.
3 The Tory Party are also pretty useless.
4 Brexit didnt mean taking back control.

The BBC programming over the weekend was a shambles that was caused by this dispute.

There is no point in having any rules unless they are clear.
He was either entitled to express an opinion on this or he wasnt.
It doesnt matter what we think, it should be clearly covered in the BBC rules.

Even if he broke the rules, a decent management would not have allowed the dispute to get to this.
A decent management would have put this dispute behind them, and come to an agreement regarding his future conduct.
This argument has detracted from the debate about the small boat crossings, and the new Government Bill.
    A far more important debate.

To be fair, I think the debate was more about freedom of expression than migrants, but I accept that the two issues became intermingled.

As I have just put on another thread, net Migration to the UK last year was over 500,000.

The Government would have us believe that this is entirely due to the 89,000 applications from asylum-seekers, many of which came by small boat.

    Which is nonsense.

I made my thoughts clear about Gary Linekers comments on another thread.
However, it now seems more complicated.
Some "experts" were suggesting over the weekend that had he been a news, or current affairs presenter, it was likely that he would have been fired.
The comments made by Tim Davie yesterday suggest that the BBC rules were broken.
Another expert suggested this morning that his comments would have been unacceptable, had they been made by Laura Kuensberg, or Huw Edwards.

It appears that it is not as simple as freedom of speech vs BBC impartiality.

Is Gary Lineker more important than the BBC?

What good are rules that are applied inconsistently?

This debate has completely dominated the news, and front pages over the last few days.
His comment was made in response to discussions in the House of Commons regarding the Illegal Immigration Bill.
As a result the Bill seems to have been forgotten about.

The BBC stars who may have also breached impartiality guidelines
