I last saw him in a Walsall comp, quite a few years ago now tbh. Yes, he was a character, but a likable character in the whole. He was more concerned about his racing bets then his cards afaicr.

Ha, he certainly loved a bet. The story goes that his Dad was a bookie, & Micky followed in his footsteps, though some versions suggest his Dad owned a Casino.
So sad that another great character of the game has passed. Played against Micky many times back in the good old days of big field PL rebuys when J10 was THE place to play. Lovely guy, always chatty and I don`t recall a single(serious)derogatory word against other people or players, and always good for banter, paid me a genuine massive compliment on one occasion that has stuck in my mind 25+years later, mind you I was considered a decent player back then would you believe . R.I.P Micky so nice to have known you
I was at a table a few years back at Grosvenor Junction 10 and was amazed at the way a guy was playing his short stack. Apparently that was Mickey Wernick and one of the others told me that he was regarded as a great short stack player. Absolutely fearless.
For those not familiar, "J10" is Walsall Grosvenor, which sits right beside the M6 at J10.
It was pretty much the HQ of UK "Live" poker from around 2003 to 2008. They held regular Festivals, including "Midlands Medley" and the very popular Grosvenor Grand Prix.
