    Dear anthony hayes

We are emailing to inform you that your RAC MOT & Service Plan has now been cancelled.

Please allow up to 14 working days for any refund to be processed.

    Thank you for your patience.

    This smacks of a scam.

I thought it was a good idea.
Would have been good, if run properly.

It was really surprising for me to discover that the RAC would deal with customers in such an underhanded, and misleading way.
I have enclosed the emails in order of the most recent first.
Your "Who Can Fix My Car" people quoted me £270 yesterday, for a full service done by one of your mobile mechanics.
I booked the service today for £216.
I would imagine that you would find this difficult to explain.
Unless I receive a full refund after cancelling the Service & MOT plan, I can assure you I will be taking the matter further,
I am more bothered about the principle, that the cost of the cancellation fee.
It has been a shambles, and I wish I had not got involved.

    How infuriating.

You shouldn't incur a cancellation fee.

I would avoid these admin heavy companies.

I take my car to a local trusted mechanic, he takes it for a MOT does my servicing, Ive built a rapport with him, hes almost family now.

Although I don't know his name, I've been seeing him too long to suddenly ask what his name is and I suspect his position is the same with my name.

I had the service last week.
    There were no problems.
Two blokes turned up and just got on with it.
They didnt find any extra work, or anything that had to be replaced.
It was a full service, and they had a £20 discount on when I booked it.
    It therefore cost £216.
I didnt have to go anywhere, or have to get anyone to run me anywhere.
I will be booking my future services with the RAC mobile mechanics.
A full service with the Main Dealer would usually cost me around £550-600.

Home insurance is just as bad.
Mine is due for renewal at the end of this month.
I went on to Confused.com, at the end of June, just to give me an idea of the cost.
The cheapest quote available was for £181.
I could not renew at the time because,
    1. I had not got a renewal quote from my current provider.
    2. You had to take the policy out within one month.

    My current policy is £253.
I got the renewal quote this morning £383.
    So I cancelled the auto-renewal.
I have just been back on Confused.com.
The cheapest quote is now £261.
So the cheapest quote has gone up £80 in a couple of weeks.
The renewal has gone up £130.
The cheapest 3 quotes have all disappeared.
    It all seems very wierd.
I have never claimed for anything on my home or contents.

I cant really moan because I will be able to renew the policy for a similar price to last year.

    The insurance business is strange.
Swinton have now dropped my renewal quote by £100.
So they are now down to £283.
Before that email came through, I decided to look at the AA.
They quoted me £181, at the beginning of June, but they disappeared when I looked earlier this month.
So I went on their website and got a quote direct from them.
    They now want £609.
I dont know what the f...k is going on.
I am reluctant to renew with Swinton, and have never heard of the company quoting £260.

I have just been on GoCompare.
I got 7 quotes that were £200 or less.
The cheapest of which was the Post Office at £173.

I did it with Allianz in the end.
They were about 40p dearer than the Post Office.
Although the money was paid to LV.
I still cant understand the difference between GoCompare, and Confused.com
There was almost £90 difference in the cheapest, comparing both sites.
  • HAYSIEHAYSIE Member Posts: 35,543
Allianz say that the policy is underwritten by LV.
The money was paid to LV.
I can only think that LV will pay Allianz a commission for finding me.
    The policy cost £173.35.
I dont have a clue, how much LV would play Allianz.
Although LV were among the cheaper quotes.
    They were £195.94.
    Not much logic there.
You would think that LV would just make their quotes a bit cheaper to save money.
For instance if their quote was say £170, they could have got the business without paying Allianz any commission.

Allianz own LV, there won’t be any commission changing hands they’re essentially just different brands of the same group

Most make a Killing on " Auto Renew Policy " where they double the renewal & you don't notice the money is taken directly out. bye bye money. cough!

The FCA’s ‘general insurance pricing practices’ which have been in force since the start of 2022 prevent this.

Of course it meant that firms could no longer offer price incentives for new customers so most of the ‘savvy’ customers who used to shop around now complain that prices have increased.
