Tikay is having issues accessing the forum, so I am bringing you haphazard updates from Vegas in his place
"Our package winners get to play an MTT at Venetian, which has 2 x Day 1's (yesterday & today) with the final day tomorrow (Thursday).
Each of the opening days plays down until 12.5% of the entries remain, they are then guaranteed a cash & go through to Thursday's final day.
Yesterday, there were 69 entries, so 9 have made the money & will return tomorrow. Unforch, as I noted yesterday, I could not really interact with the players or take photos.
5 of our players elected to play Day 1a yesterday, being Alvez11, "Josh Manley Poker", bigfatfish, loololollo, & Nigel M (sorry, forgot alias).
Of those five, four fell by the wayside, with loololollo the lone survivor, so he's guaranteed at least a min cash. Decent shape too, just below average with 258,000. Blinds will resume at 6,000-12,000/12,000. (BB Ante), so I suppose that's in the region of 20 Bigs, though I'm not sure how to calculate it to allow for BB ante. Hopefully he'll wear a different hat tomorrow, a multi-coloured bucket hat is not something I'd be seen dead in, and as is well-known, I am an arbiter of fine taste in the clothery department.
I should perhaps add that our players (& only our players) also have a $200 per head Last Longer, with, I think, 3 places paid. "

"I played the $150 8 or Better at Orleans yesterday. **** loved it, had a great time, I really miss playing Live Poker, & these days only get to play in Vegas or at the SPT's. I guess I could toddle across to DTD which is 15 minutes away from home, but I doubt they do much by way of low buy-in PLO8 MTT's or cash stuff.
I never troubled the judges, but with 63 entries it paid 8 places & I finished 11th, which considering the finer nuances of Limit Poker are lost on me, was quite reasonable I thought.
In the late stages & with a fast structure, (the pots get surprisingly big very quickly in Limit) it becomes very easy to play at the sharp end, you just have to find a hand & go with it. Forget getting anyone off a hand pre, it ain't ever gonna happen. I found a few hands when needed & survived until there were 11 left, at which point I met my demise when Billy Big Stack called my open & I flopped 4 to the nut low & 4 to the nut flush in spades, can't hope for much better really. Whatever the flop was I had to go with anyway. My man flopped the straight, the low missed & the crucial spade was elusive. There's always that 10 minutes of "if only" but no complaints at all. Might just play it again next week."
"The Curious Case of the Starting Stacks
The website stated (& still does) 20,000 starting chips;
$10,000 Guaranteed
$150 Buy In
20,000 Chips
20 Minute Levels
https://static.boydgaming.net/orleanscasino10/media/downloads/TO_Tournament_Structures_2023.pdf
...whereas the printed structure sheet at the Venue said 30,000.
We were issued with 30,000. That'll do nicely, off we go.
We only had 4 tables to start with, & at the first break they opened two new tables to get late regs in, & to balance the tables the BB from each existing table was moved to one of the new tables. I was the BB so I was amongst those that got moved to a new table.
So my new table had a mixture of new entries, & BB's that had been moved.
Fella next to me - gruff sort of chap, who had been a moved BB - spots the stacks issued to the new players are 30,000 & complains that he was only issued with 20,000 at his table.
Dealer was a bit dismissive, player goes from pop to bang in a flash, "are you calling me a liar?" sorta thing, Dealer does not want to know, fella tells Dealer to GFY, floor is called, nobody is backing down & he eventually gets told he's disqualified for being abusive. (He was very abusive, it must be said). He continues to harangue the Floor & now another fella claims he was only issued with 20,000 too.
The clock was still ticking & 8 of the 20 minutes of the Level had already gone before it was paused. (The other tables continued playing).
Now Mr Floor realises Gruff Bloke was telling the truth - two of the 4 starting tables HAD been issued with 20,000, the other two got 30,000.
Oh dear, how do they get out of that one?
Course, by now the chancers have spotted an opening & all sorts of players are claiming to have been issued with just 20,000.
Eventually, the short-changed players were all given an extra 10,000 & the fella who got DQ'd gets reinstated.
It gets even messier now, as 2 players who began with 20,000 had bust.... I don't actually know how they resolved the bustees, and to be fair, that was quite the dilemma.
The curious thing is how could it have happened? The "sets" of starting stacks were all in the Dealer's trays. Guess two or more staff distributed the chips & were on different wavelengths.
Most odd, & something I've never seen before."
"The great thing about Vegas poker is you get to share tables with all sorts.
To my immediate right for a while was a fella I'm sure Doobs has shared many a table with - "Miami John" Cernuto.
John has 3 WSOP Bracelets, though they were back in the day. He's 79 years old & I imagine the game has passed him by somewhat by now, but he still knows the score.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cernuto
In some ways, a surprise to see him playing bowl tourneys round town, but fair play to him for still being competitive at his age. And I do enjoy the vagaries of variance which enables regular guys like me to sit next to these fellas.
He's exceptionally argumentative though, always has been, & we saw a perfect example of it.
The clock ticks over into the next level during a hand, & John is BB next hand. The new hand is dealt, John puts in 800, Dealer says "blinds went up, it's 1,000".
John refuses on the grounds "it's not been announced". Huh? It kicks off, Floor come over & put him straight, it's 1,000, get on with it.
And here's the thing. John's been pokering for at least 36 years, his earliest stated cash was in 1987;
https://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=43
I mean, how did he go 36 years without understanding that most basic of things? The plasma clearly showed the new levels, & I don't see why it has to be announced. Even if not announced, what's the problem, it's only 200 chips from a starting 30,000? And even if he's right, is it really worth having a ruck for 200 chips?
Considering his experience, it struck me as most odd. "
I have played with Miami John before; more than that really. We both chopped the mixed O8 championship at the Golden Nugget a few years ago. He always says hello now and remembers exactly what we chopped. If I'd played as many tournaments as him, not sure I'd remember each of them that clearly.
My tournament convos usually go, did I play that? We were at the same table? I bad beated you?
Does anyone recognise any names as SKY Players ??
Obv Lollo is on 258K ...... Pretty sure RaRa's surname isn't KRINSKY
I'm hoping GERARD GARDNER might be @gez_bear from Huddersfield-way
Tikay has got himself an RV to take down to Albuquerque. He took it down to the Venetian self park, where he was heard saying "that young whipersnapper Negreanu gets to park his in the Rio car park for the entire World Series, and you won't let me in here for a few days? Do you know who I am, I started playing before he was even born." He was turned around, and much traffic chaos followed
Tikay's wheels
Traffic outside the Venetian afterwards
Whatever next?
More from Tikay. Am sure he'll post more when he gets back. Would be interested to hear a trip report from The Lodge too.
A putting two and two together here, and guessing Dale Hancock was 3rd in the last longer.
In other good news (or bad news?) I did 4 final tables last night and didn't win any, but was beating A8 Natnug, but didn't last much longer than you.
"I do have a bit more info, but the days & nights are a blur, so I'm a bit short on detail.
By way of a recap, 69 played Day 1A & with 12.5% going through, 9 made it into Day 2. Of our 5 runners, just loololollol survived.
On Day 1B the rest of our package winners played, and this was a much bigger field, some 153 entries, making 222 in all & a prize pool of $112,110. I believe 19 players progressed to Day 2.
We had a few more survivors this time, including gez_bear, NickD, & DaleBoss.
The field thinned out rapidly on Day 2, with gez_bear an early casualty. However, loolollol finished 9th & NickD 6th.
For our private (Sky Poker) $200 per head Last Longer, NickD finished 1st, loololollol 2nd & DaleBoss 3rd.
In the evening, we all convened at a place called "Flight Club" in the Venetian Grand Canal Shoppes.
"Flight Club" is a sort of range-merge between Darts, electronic wizardry, & copious amounts of alcohol. Sort of Darts answer to "Top Golf". It's a franchise based business & is becoming immensely popular, with new venues opening all over the USA & Australia.
In the UK they are at;
Bloomsbury, London
Brewery Qtr, Cheltenham
Corn St, Bristol
Islington, London
King St, Manchester
Park Row, Leeds
Shoreditch, London
St Mary St, Cardiff
Temple St, Birmingham
Victoria, London
George St, Glasgow (OPENING 6TH OCTOBER)
St James Qtr, Edinburgh

I made a quiet exit after around 3 hours, by which time it was clear a lot of our players would be a little unwell this morning.
Today (Friday) some of our party flew home, while 3 or 4 of the boys are heading down to Doug Polk's place "The Lodge", in Austin Texas where they'll be hanging out for a week or so.
Most of our party fly home on Saturday (5th August) & that'll be that for another year.
I've got another week though, & don't fly home until Sunday 13th, arriving UK Monday 14th."
Sounds like everybody is enjoying themselves. Are you able to access the forum from the US without needing VPN? I'm in CA for work in November and hopefully have time to play at Hustler of the Bike. If anybody else has played at either of those, let me know what you think.
I've literally just arrived home, & I'm all a bit over the shop.
Once I've got everything re-connected etc, I'll do a sort of belated "Postcard from Vegas" with a few tales & photos.
