This creature is 1 of several high profile criminals who have refused to appear before the Court for sentencing. So-should the Law be changed to force people to appear?
A couple of quick points related to this. Firstly, I would expect any Lawyer advising her to recommend that she did appear. Simply because doing so tends to reduce the sentence. As an example here, it is most unusual to receive Whole of Life sentences for Attempted Murder, never mind 6 of them.
Secondly, people like this often ignore legal advice. To be this sort of Serial Killer, the Criminal is normally a Sociopath-they are incapable of considering the feelings of others. It simply does not register.
I do not believe that someone like Lucy Letby should be forced to physically attend Court. It is something of a bear pit, and the safety of even someone like her (and her advisers/the public) need to be taken into account.
But she should be forced to appear. Via either physical presence or video link. Because it is also necessary to consider the rights of the victims/their families. And baby killers should not get to choose whether or not they listen to their sentencing.

If you consider the conduct of someone like Joanna Dennehy during her sentencing, it was of no assistance to the victims families in any way.
It is obviously important for them to have their say, but being abused must surely rub salt into their very painful wounds.
Although if they are grinning or laughing in view of the victims families, I am not sure that it would help.
The idea that a criminal could escape their sentencing hearing, and avoid any victim impact statements is clearly wrong.
Although the value in forcing a criminal that feels no remorse to attend must be limited, and their reaction may make the victims families feel worse.
