We always called it the crust when growing up, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Mrs Bean refers to it as "the end piece" if she's getting some toast on the go.
It's a crust. Great toasted with cheese, beans, eggs, bacon and tomato, peanut butter, jam, lemon curd, marmalade, dripping and salt and the list goes on.
Ah always get a bit of a slaggin in the pub because ah say it's toast 'n' cheese or toast 'n' beans, ma mates say's it's cheese on toast, roasted cheese or beans on toast, which is it ?. As you can see the conversation in the pub is always thought provoking and hard hitting.
