i appreciate the importance of it around Schools, Public Buildings etc. but it really is so hard/BORING to drive at 20mph especially over extended Zones. You just know that Speed Cameras will go up in these sections to generate extra income for the Councils etc.
As you get older you may want to drive at slower speeds........ ME myself, extra minutes spent in a car when I don't need to be, is extra minutes not doing something I'd rather be doing ......and therefore extra minutes off my HAPPY LIFE
I know that it's from a while ago, but when new cars were sold, they used to quote the maximum miles per gallon (mpg) figures, and they were always recorded at 56mph.
Googling fuel efficiency for a car engine it comes up with this......

I know I've just driven to Brighton and back, to take my daughter to Uni.....
When I filled the car up, the range guide for how many miles the tank of fuel would give me was 360 miles ....... On both journeys, as I was driving at 70mph-ish, on A30 and A27/M27 the range went up to 450 miles
Wales' 20mph rollout chaos: Furious motorists blast 'absolute nightmare' new speed limit which Penny Mordaunt says is 'punishing' drivers as signs are defaced and vehicles do 20 in a 40 zone - and 80,000 sign petition to reverse decision
The car can be seen screeching to a halt as it suddenly enters the 20mph zone
Award-winning laundry boss Arman Asghari (pictured), 44, who delivers in a five mile radius of his launderette in Swansea, said: 'I did a practice run before the new law came in - it was like standing still
Pensioner Vivienne Moore (pictured), 73, of Townhill, Swansea, said: 'I've just driven to the shops from m my home two miles away and other drivers were beeping their horn at me because I was doing 20mph
Now Welsh government consider dropping MORE speed limits despite furious backlash against 20mph rollout - as opponents slam 'anti-drive mentality' and petition to reverse the lower limit passes 340,000
Travelled to Talybont near Barmouth on Saturday. Horrendous. 20 mph through llangollen, Corwen, Bala and Barmouth plus every 3 house hamlet in between.
Put about 50 minutes onto the trip.
Talking to a local last night who lives in Talybont but works in Porthmadoc, says it's put about 30 minutes onto his commute each day. He can't see any discernible advantage.

Typically, cars are most efficient at 45-50mph. As well as fuel economy differing from vehicle to vehicle, it is also dependent on a number of other factors such as tyre pressure, presence of roof racks, and driving style – all of which are covered in this guide.
