'I am off out mam, see you later': Fifteen-year-old boy's last words to his mother before vanishing on his way to a party back in 2002 - as police arrest man and woman more than 20 years after shock disappearance
The devastated mother of a teenage boy who disappeared more than 20 years ago has revealed his last words to her as police announce that they have arrested a man and woman over the disappearance. Robert Williams told his mother Cheryl 'I am off out mam, see you later' as the 15-year-old left home in Resolven, Neath in March 2002. Tragically, the teenager vanished, leaving his mother heartbroken and longing for a breakthrough in the case. Now, more than 20 years after Robert vanished, South Wales Police have said that they have arrested a 59-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man on Tuesday morning in connection with the mystery disappearance. The pair have since been released on bail.
That reminded me of the time I had a conversation with someone just before they were murdered.
Many years ago, I lived in Colchester. And my parents lived in a village about 5 miles away. My best friend also lived in Colchester (still does), and his parents lived in the same village. So every Sunday, we used to meet our parents, then meet up in the Village Pub later on with our respective Partners.
It was the sort of village pub where everyone knew everyone. And, due to the fact that people realised we had relatives in the Village and had previously lived there ourselves, we soon ended up chatting to the Locals.
There was 1 guy who always had fixed opinions. Which he was sure were the only opinions that mattered. 1 evening we were talking about the role of Women in today's world. Now I, like my friend, live in a "1 woman, 1 vote" democracy. Where our Partners are the 1 woman. With the 1 vote. And this guy is banging on about how women need to know their place, and if his wife ever spoke out of turn (she wasn't in the pub), she would get a slap.
