Does the fact it was invitational mean it was for people that play big in the casino? They often have these events where they invite high-rollers, put on nice food, stick them in a private room, nice freeroll, comp the hotel and hope they trip over a roulette wheel on the way out. The kind of people who play in them don't usually know much about poker and don't want to "waste" the whole weekend in the card room.
I might be totally wrong and this is a different kind of invitational.

Ah...ok...that sounds more like a freeroll for people that put in the hours on the cash tables where they take a dollar a pot and make the prizepool. Those ones get a lot of splits too due to the players all being smaller cash players and not wanting massive flips for chunks.

The first player who raised the question "chop, anyone?" with 29 players left must have been a brave soul...
The thread is hilarious though, with almost everyone saying the chopees must be mad.
Not everyone thinks the same though, if they want to chop, let them.
God only knows how they got 29 players to agree though.

@NChanning
That would make sense, but a quick peruse of the @MGMGrandPoker Twitter feed suggests it's a regular MTT judging by this Tweet dated September 29th.
