Cheers to Euro 2024! England stars rack up '£35,000 bar bill' as they celebrate qualification for Germany in style at London's Chiltern Firehouse

England secured their spot in next year's European Championship with two games to spare, and celebrated their feat in equally impressive style on Tuesday night. Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane completed the turnaround as England came from 1-0 down to beat Italy 3-1 at Wembley and exorcise some of the ghosts from their defeat in 2021. The three points solidified Gareth Southgate's side's place in the competition proper in Germany next summer, where they will turn up as one of the favourites to go all the way.

Never understood these sorts of headlines. I just don't get why it is a story. Just like when a paper cannot report on someone without saying how much their house might be worth.

Suppose it was a £35,000 bar bill. And suppose there were 10 footballers footing that bill. All on an average salary on £100,000 per week (I suspect it is more, but let's run with that).

So. Some footballers spent 3.5% of a week's wages each on a celebration.

If someone earns £500 a week. And spends £17.50 down the pub. Is that news?

They earn enormous amounts of money. And spend it. The end.

    A different world.

and the tories will try to mention this as an example of trickle down ecomomics but would the people behind the bar serving those drinks see much of that £35000 no of course not they would make £10.42 an hour or maybe a tiny bit more because london. over 90% of all that money will just go to another rich dude who owns the london club. meanwhile the bartender is likely living on the bread line forced to use food banks and heading to an early grave because of the stress of survival killing them slowly.

The bartends will never retire because they never will live long enough to retire or save enough. The bar owner who likely got given it on credit for free from the bank and the footballers will never have to do a real days work in their life most likely.
