this is worrying due to several things. Firstly if he actually did commit the offence he was alleged to have committed he should have to face the justice not be able to escape it this way.

I feel that anybody who thinks that suicide is merely escaping justice is perhaps coming at this from a slightly left of field approach.
Innocent or guilty this is a very poor way for the legal process to proceed.
If I was guilty of a serious offence and looking at major prison time and they sent me a letter informing me that I was to appear at court etc. My next appearance would be nowhere, as I'd have it away.
