This day last year

"If anyone doubted that big football matches affected Online Poker, last night surely put those doubts to bed, with the early featured MTT's being an overlay bloodbath. Even the 19.18 PLO8, easily the best performing MTT (in relative terms) only just getting over the line. The later stuff, including Main, Mini & Summit all got across the line though. Sunday night (England v Senegal) might be fun, especially if there is Extra Time...

One of Sky Poker's many Senior Citizens took the Main, @Solack. In his 15th year at Sky Poker, has over 60 four-figure cashes here, best of which was a 2014 Super Roller for £6,150. Interestingly, (?) 6th in that Super Roller for £1,300 was another Senior Citizen, @Enut. 4th last night after winning Monday's Turbo was @NChanning, & he almost won last night's Turbo too, eventually having to settle for 4th.

@PokerEsse single tables the Mini almost every night & got the win last night, his first featured win I believe. @Shrimpy28 seems to have returned to his bottle-job days, he was runner-up, that was his 17th 2nd place this month, being 2nd in a Mini, a Mini Major, a Mega, the £16.50 thing & 13 Heads Up games.

It was a Big Boys Benefit in Summit, with @Froozle satelliting in & then pocketing £1,600 for 1st, followed home by @sandhu05, Sunday's Major winner @wineli & super-punter @jordz16.

Recent SPT winner @chrisdonkb who has been AWOL all weekend took the £1k BH.

@Jac35 took Reload. He's had some big wins down the years but mostly plays smaller these days & has reached the point in poker when he plays much less, plays smaller, but when he does play he seems to enjoy it much more, a sort of poker nirvana.

@Dave1997 has been here 5 years but barely played until the last few weeks, & in just his 16th MTT he took the MidEx.

7 @ 7 overlaid by £77, which must be some sort of dubious record, and it was @maccol who helped himself to a nice lump of Sky Poker's money by booking the win."

Where are they now?

An incoming PM overnight from a long-standing regular - a good bloke - made me aware that @Zadoc aka Roger has not been seen on site recently, & when I delved a little deeper, he last logged in at the end of August. Last we heard he was in hospital, so it's a bit worrying. If anyone has any news, I'd be really grateful if they could let me know.

As with last year (see previous Post), it was a big Champions League night, & once again it impacted numbers somewhat as always. Just flesh wounds really though, & whilst nights like that are bad for Online Poker, they are great for Sports Betting, so SB&G end up with a net gain. What a business they have built up.

Having said that, the current run-rate is much much higher than last year generally speaking, & last night's Main at £5,220 was a lovely 28% up on last year's £4,080. Surprisingly, Summit only made a dead £4,000 last night, some 12% down y-o-y.

@AlexaAJ took the Main. Big winner here but I don't think we've ever spoke, met or exchanged Posts, so I never know what to say really. Had a decent night though, apart from 1st in the Main, was 3rd in a £500 BH, 3rd in a £300 Rebuy, 5th in 9 @ 9, & won seats via Satellites at first & only time of asking to both Main & Summit. Currently sits 3rd in the Sharky 2023 Profit Leaderboard for Sky, & has a stunning 76% ROI at an ABI of £21. Proper numbers them.

@Elliott888 took the Mini. Not too many mentions, but did win a Predator Main in September of last year, & has won a sprinkling of 7 @ 7's & Reloads. In 4th was @snoxx11 who is a little like @AlexaAJ in that I don't know anything about him, but he seems to be in great form, & was 3rd in 9 @ 9 having won it the previous night. Best scores lifetime are two Summit wins, a month apart in 2018.

Summit always takes a bit of winning & it was the unheralded @Fulcher who did best last night. Been here 14 years but very low volume, & seems to spend equal time on both Cash & MTT's. No previous mentions except when 8th in the Major two weeks ago, since when he went AWOL until last night. Was a typically high class Summit FT. 2nd was @GoldNug22 who won a UKOPS HR in the recent series & only seems to play £110 events. 3rd was @FeelGroggy who you know all about, with @wineli 4th, the very much in-form @LFCChris86 5th & in 6th the gnarly Welsh veteran @Dewi-cool who made a very good attempt at winning it two weeks on the bounce. For the 2nd week running Dewi did it the hard way too, first up winning a £5.20 sat, then winning the £24 sat. So both weeks he got in for £5.20. Good to see him playing here a little more regularly. Used to play a bit Live, best result being 9th in the 2015 UKPC at DTD for £15,000+ & he was (maybe still is) a regular at most of the APAT events.

There was another hot FT, when the top three in Quickdraw were @destinycod @FeelGroggy &, rather incongruously, @ctbn of all people. Bet that was a fun threesome, & the Table Chat almost suggests that @ctbn is a @destinycod fanboy, which is a little irksome as I thought he admired me more than anyone ever.

I seem to have waffled on a bit this morning, so maybe I should leave it at that.
