I find it staggering that they hadn't installed suitable concrete buttresses around the bridge support legs to protect against this. I know that it wasn't standard practice when the bridge was built but surely it was obvious with the size of ships now that this could happen if a ship lost control or was blown off course during bad weather. But then I suppose hindsight is 20/20.
Amazingly - perhaps predictably though - the conspiracy theory nutjobs are all over this already, saying it was deliberate. Look at the stupidity of the remarks on these Twitter feeds - all from folks who almost certainly don't know a thing about maritime matters & global shipping. There are already hundreds of such threads. These people need locking up, there's something wrong with them. At the moment they have three stories that they are all wetting themselves with excitement over - Princess Kate ("it's not really her", lol), Sean Diddy, (they love anything that is potentially Epstein-related) & now this accident.
Note that at ~30 seconds in that video you can clearly see the headlights of multiple vehicles driving across the bridge. Someone on the stricken ship had the good sense to send a radio alert that they were unable to avert colliding with the bridge, after which no further traffic was permitted on the bridge. Sadly, the lights of the construction workers vehicles were clearly visible. 6 of them appear not to have survived. They were all from Mexico, Honduras. El Salvador & the like, so their families can't expect much by way of sympathy from Trump.

Why has Biden said that the Federal Government (taxpayer) will pay for the re-building of the bridge? Surely it should be the insurance company, who will need to investigate to ascertain where the fault lies.

It's going to cost the insurers millions and millions
Absolutely, maybe even billions.

"The maintenance workers in the bridge were actually CIA agents loosening the bolts, they didn't get the memo."

He also claimed he has travelled by train many times over the bridge.
Problem is it has no train lines........idiot.
