This is a fascinating article...
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckmm2nrlem2oDo YOUR kids spend too much time on their smartphones, & does it hinder their development?
Many youngsters exhibit a complete absence of normal social skills, oblivious to even the most basic functions, & I'm convinced this can be attributed to over-use of smartphones during & even before their adolescence.

Imagine, say, joining a poker table at which 8 players are already seated. The game has not yet started, they are all just sitting there. And yet not one of them glances in your direction, acknowledges your presence, makes any kind of verbal greeting & deliberately avoids eye contact. And none of them consider that odd.
That's where we are...
Youngsters dont even talk on the phone these days, they prefer to text.
I am not involved in any social media.
I have a Facebook account that I dont use, but none of the others.
Some years ago O2 were looking for 40 franchisees.
I was accepted as one of them.
I attended a number of meeting discussing the business.
Although I pulled out in the end, but thats another story.
At the time texting was a minuscule part of the business.
I just picked up a couple of current applicable stats.
In the UK 98% of people between the ages of 16, and 24 own a smart phone.
That must surely exceed by a huge margin, the ownership of any other product.
UK users send on average 413 million text messages per day.
76% of UK users send several text messages per day.
These figures do not include Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Snapchat.
Scary.
