Postcard from Las Vegas

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 168,789

Morning.

Generally, I can't use the Forum whilst in Vegas, it gets geo-blocked, but I've spoken with James (The Boss) & agreed I can have a bash at uploading some photos, news & goss. It MAY get taken down, & my chat rights might get automatically blocked, if so, meh, it is what it is, & posting will resume after I get back home, (& get my chat rights restored) around 30th July.

OK, lets see how it goes.

WARNING; If any of our players who are in Vegas try to play on the site from Vegas, you WILL get blocked & quite possibly lose your account, so please don't try it. Best not to try & post on the Forum either, until you are back home.

Let's start with the first two days, before the Welcome Party on the Sunday.

Arrived on the Friday, & I was off the aircraft at about 6.30pm, & was sat at the Limit O8 tables by around 8pm. It's silly, but I am like a kid on Christmas morning, I can't wait. I should add that at The Orleans, almost all poker is "Limit". Can't see that ever working in the UK....

I prefer to play $4-$8, that's where I'm completely comfortable, but I began on an $8-$16 Table, as there was a spare seat.

At $8 $16 we play in $2 chips, so the normal pull-up is $400. I confess, I do enjoy having big piles of chips in front of me.

Then a seat came vacant at $4-$8, so I moved across.

    At $4 - $8 we play in ONE dollar ($1) chips, & the standard pull-up is $200.

If you are not familiar with $4-$8 Limit O8, I should explain that it's very hard to either win or lose much if you play sensibly. You can sit there for hours without having to pull up, but without making much. It's just good, recreational, social fun.

    "recreational, social fun"?

Oh yes. The tables are full of young whippersnappers & sprinkling of nubile young ladies, all having a blast. Oh what fun we have.

I'm not going to bore you with any hands, listening or reading that sort of stuff is like having to look at next door's holiday snaps. Err, no thanks.

But I did do rather well, as you can see. Those green chips are $25 each. There's about $413 there, from my $200 pull up.

All down to the sheer brilliance of my play? Of course.

Though I confess, this may have helped somewhat. Note it was runner-runner. That's worth a $50 "High Hand" bonus too, hence the 2 x $25 chips.

(My other two cards, not in shot, were "wheel" cards).

Obviously, villain had the K flush, which he proudly tabled as "nut flush". Oh no it's not mate.

I probably spent 6 hours Friday night, 14 hours on Saturday, & 8 hours on Sunday, so around 28 hours, for a profit of around $350. Probably best not to give up my day job then. (And I gave $240 of that back on Monday at $8-$16, where the standard is much much tougher).

Really, at the stakes I was playing, the same money just goes round & round, back & forth. Most of us are not playing for money as such, we just wanna chill & have some cheap fun.

Next up, a bunch of photos from the Welcome Party.

Oh, I forgot, before we do the Welcome Party....

I went across to South Point, which is around 10 miles south of Vegas on the I-15 & played a little $100 Limit O8 affair.

    Two points of note.

    Reg fee? Work it out for yourself;

The entry fee is $100. $78 to the Prize Pool. $11 House Fee, $10 to the staff, and $1 to Promo.

    See....

I'll let you do the math, but it looks like about 28% to me. That's completely standard in Vegas. Oh, & it was unlimited rebuys, with rebuys raked. The best players on earth could not beat that rake, but to be fair, that's not the point. It's just a fun gamble, & let's hope we get on the right side of variance.

The other point was, well, I busted 3 tables out with 2 tables paid, which was fine, I had a great time. I got into three huge two-way flips (flipping for both high & low) & lost all three. But then, just before rebuys ended, & getting low on chips, I somehow found myself in a five way pot, 3 of us all-in. This was Limit O8 (Hi-Low), & I missed EVERYTHING. Well except, on a high only board, all Broadway cards, I paired my 10, & with the other 4 players all pulling to a low which never came, my 10 somehow scooped the lot.

As any O8 player will tall you, scooping a 5 way pot with one pair is just about impossible. Unless you are very lucky....

The Spanish football shirts? I should explain that due to time difference, the Euros Final was at Noon in Vegas, & the Welcome Party at 8pm.

And John Monty trolled the English lads relentlessly.....

    A quick quiz for you.

This chap was there. Some years ago he won what was, I'm pretty sure, the biggest first prize in a Sky Poker Tournament EVER.

Anyone know his alias, & what the 1st prize was?

I'd take a great guess that LO8 game you played in is brilliant for learning the game. Sounds a cracking few days. Enjoy it all
