I wonder how many farmers will commit suicide before April 2026 to ensure that their children do not lose 20% of the farm to HMRC? It's already an occupation with one of the highest suicide rates, I don't think Rachel's tax raid will help.

I think they'll be alright. Buying a farm has been good for avoiding IHT for a long time (just ask Clarkson). I don't think anybody will feel sorry for a married farmer living on site needing to pay 20% over £3m, spread over 10 years.
Imagine if they brought the King's estate into IHT. The budget deficit would be eliminated in one go, when Charles passes. Except it doesn't apply to Charles or William, although it appears that Princess Anne's estate is going to get clobbered....unless something changes, obviously.
1. Tesco's made £2.9 Billion profit last year. Cannot understand why they should pay more tax. Presumably they think it would be much better if their customers paid instead 2. Trump organising modern-day pogrom 3. Farmers threaten country, unwilling to accept that they should pay tax in the same way as everyone else 4. UK still not decided whether to retaliate in kind in relation to tariffs
The international commitment to Defence spending is 2%. Across Europe. and other members of NATO.
32 nations have committed to spend at least 2% of GDP on spending by the end of 2024. We are already spending 2.3% of our GDP on Defence. Thanks to both this and the last Govt. Of those 32 nations, we spend the 9th most as %age of GDP. Out of 32. While 9 of those 32 are going to fail to meet the 2% target.
Meeting 2.5% by the end of the 2020s involves 2 things. Firstly, being able to afford it. Secondly, and more importantly, making sure it is not just a case of us spending money to plug gaps made by people who are currently unwilling to pay their fair share.
The time to promise we will spend 2.5% is once we have done our bit ensuring everyone else is also paying their fair share.
Not before.
And I really object to getting lectures on patriotism from the non-dom Viscount Rothermere.

Isn't that what Trump said?
Yes.
I don't think everything that man does or says is wrong.
