So today a guy who I used to work with and have spoken to on facebook over the years says he saw something incredible today.
He then sends me a picture of a random lady and refers to her as a "Super Saiyan Karen" and then says he feels like a wild life photographer capturing the picture in the wild as he puts it.
I immediately called him out as totally out of order, the fact is neither of us know this lady, maybe she is a true Karen maybe she isn't maybe she is a horrible person, maybe she is the one of the nicest most wonderful people that ever existed, neither of us can comment because neither of us know her.
He thought she looked weird and so thought it was fine to snap a picture of the lady to send to people on facebook to ridicule her and laugh.
I said he did not have her consent and does not know the person he said its in a public place so he is well within his legal rights to do this.
I dont know about the legality of this so wont comment on that part but I do think it is highly immoral, there is no telling how vulnerable or not this lady is. Maybe she would just take it as a laugh and find the whole thing funny but also maybe she could be absolutely mortified and really suffer from this.
He then says I am been a snowflake and he is only sending this to his mates on facebook, well as I pointed out he doesnt know what others would do with the picture as he thought I would laugh rather then call him out as been totally out of order for this. So how can he be sure how others will behave with the picture?
he argues I am been a snowflake and way to sensitive but here is the thing he took a picture of a lady he believed to look odd for the purposes of getting a cheap laugh for ridicule with his mates not knowing for sure if this could potentially go viral and if so what harm or suffering he could causes this unknown lady.
I am genuinely thinking this is enough of a sign to never speak to the dude again I think it is that out of order and seriously lowers my opinion of the guy.
am I wrong?
note I wont share the picture here or anywhere I think that would be thoroughly morally wrong.
