yeah well if there is intelligent life out there they wont put up with our **** and will wipe us out. Should we ever get out there.
FFS, do you ever have a happy thought?
its a very positive thought. Your just thinking from a human centric position. I am thinking from a universal unitarian perspective. Imagine that we are not talking about humans that we are talking about only alien species.
Now imagine that the other alien species have actually behaved themselves to some degree they live decent lives and they dont wage war on each other or keep others in destitution. However a new species emerges from a small world that runs everything on compounding fiat debt to enrich a small elite who have a system that exponential growth in perpituity otherwise the system falls apart. the rich elites of this group must continue to expand their portfolio even though it goes beyond what they could ever use let alone need. They will manipulate wage war and enslave all the others if they can. You rooting for the other guys? or the last guys?
I see my view that aliens would wipe us out as a very uplifting positive view.
The advancements we have achieved in the last 120+ years are outstanding. Scientists predicted in the early 20th century that it would be 1-10 million years before man developed a flying machine https://bigthink.com/pessimists-archive/air-space-flight-impossible/. A few months later the Wright brothers manned the first flight, 66 years later we landed man on the moon and now there is talk of inhabiting Mars. What might seem like an impossibility today, could be a reality tomorrow.

The SpaceX thing the other day took my breath away, & I'm struggling to think of anything else as miraculous in the world of technology.
I think we, in society, take some of these things for granted. I lived most of my life before the Internet, or "World Wide Web" existed, & that changed SO much. My first computer was so big & bulky it needed a room, & it took 15 minutes to fire up.
Now we have mobile 'phones that do everything - including acting as a Computer, a TV, & an expensive camera. All in a little thing we can slide into our back pocket.
And even to this day, I still marvel at our ability to "swipe" on 'phones & I-Pads. How on earth does THAT work?

Exactly, the technological advancements in the last 200 odd years is astounding, it makes you wonder what the next couple of centuries will produce, that is, if the world is still here ( cue Doubleme )

@Tikay10 - It's a game changer, I thought I was watching a take off in reverse at first! Took me one or two watches and a rewind to realise what was going on.
Wow you had a room for the computer? That is amazing haha. 15 minutes seems so long, I think if my computer took any longer than 15 seconds I might start thinking there was a problem with it.
We are definitely in a society that takes things for granted. Having grown up with all of this stuff being "the norm" I know I certainly have. I have only ever worked in IT and it seems so strange to me that not that long before I was born computers were not common in the workplace.
You have certainly made me look at things in a different light. Only this morning I was at the Apple store killing time before a job interview and swearing to myself "how expensive" the iPad I was looking at was. But when you think it has taken the place of a number of expensive, complicated, cumbersome devices it really makes you think "they are pretty reasonable and **** amazing!"
iPads were certainly a game changer, & so many businesses now use them. All Airline Pilots & Cockpit crew use them for various purposes before & during flight, football coaches use them, just about every sphere of business use them. I went somewhere on Sunday where I needed to sign up & register, they just handed me an iPad to do it with.
And they are such a neat & clever piece of kit.
It's not that long ago - 25, 30 years? - we only had "dial-up", & if you wanted to download something on your PC, it would take around 20 minutes. Now it's virtually instant, & we can do it on a hand-held 'phone or iPad.
The weird thing is we have all this wonderful technology at our fingertips, & in so many cases, people take it for granted & waste it on irrelevances.

Oh yes I remember the days as a teenager, sat nervously in the dead of night on the family PC waiting for a picture of Pamela Anderson to load up. Hoping the router didn't wake up my family.

PS - hope the job interview went well.

"Thanks Tikay, I got the job!"
So are you a genius now?
Congrats.
