Proper winter numbers last night. The Major came in at £13,300, which is 8% up y-o-y, whilst Sheriff was near the top of it's range at £1,800. However, there were small misses in the £6k BH (£10), Mini (£10), Reload (£3) & MidEx (£80).
The Major went to Mr @peiratis88but not before a weird hand went off when there were just 3 players left - see the HH at the foot of this post. @peiratis88 called for a gutterball on the flop & got instant service. If @HAYSIE wins that he almost certainly goes on to book the win. As things turned out, @IllPerkins effectively inherited 2nd, earning himself his best ever result on Sky Poker by collecting £2,155, with @HAYSIEeventually finishing 3rd.
@BenShermansingle-tabled his way to the win in the Mini, & if we exclude satellites it was his biggest cash since May 2011, some twelve & a half years ago. @MAXALLY was 3rd, his best result since winning a MidEx in July & 2nd in Sheriff a few days before that. @Gutshotterwas 5th. He's been in sparkling form of late, winning three of the Autumn UKOPS events, & a month or so earlier won both Avenger Main & BWBH on same night.
One of the night's toughest FT's was the £6k BH which was eclipsed by @roddy28 with the likes of @Drewett@FlynTimber@Jscorgie & @NChanning all on the FT. @roddy28 is a very decent bloke until you share tables with him, when he seems to morph into some sort of feral animal.
This day last year @Natnug won Sheriff, but he could only manage 2nd this time, pipped by @ChipDiddy0. Mr Channing @NChanningwho had earlier been 5th in the £6k BH was 5th again here too.
9h à 9h, belle victoire de Mme Paris anglais, avec des boules d'or 6ème anglais
@235467 took Turbo, less than a week since he won Mega & just 24 hours after winning the big nightly PLO8. @Swog, who had such a great night this day last year, was 2nd, his only FT of the session, though he did run 3rd in Friday's BWBH.
@46229 seems to have either got very lucky or his game has improved markedly - his win in MidEx followed 1st in Saturday's 9 @ 9 & 3rd in last night's 9 @ 9 too. 1st, 1st & 3rd from 5 games is going some for any player.
That's it for today.
Here's that @Haysie hand I mentioned earlier, when there were just 3 left in the Major.
Guarantees were fairly modest last night, and rightly too. Liverpool v Villa was "live" on TV with an 8pm kick off, & on Day 9 of a UKOPS bankroll fatigue is definitely a thing, especially bearing in mind that Day 10 (today) offers £84,000 in UKOPS guarantees, far & away the biggest night of the Series. And as things turned out, it looks like Sky James got it spot on, there was zero overlay, and most events just about got over the line, most notable of which was the £10,000 guarantee Main which made £10,020, so got there by exactly one entry or rebuy. Yikes, talk about cutting it fine. In total, prize pools amounted to £26,510, some 8% north of the aggregate guarantees of £24,500.
We were treated to a tremendous FT of the Main with @loololollo eventually prevailing. Rather surprisingly, it was his first win of the Series, though he had made half a dozen FT's. His Sharky numbers are eye-watering, they suggest a MTT profit on Sky Poker in excess of £414,000, with an ROI of 33% off an ABI of £18 from a 60,000 sample size. In Vegas this year, he did best of all our team in his chosen MTT too, making the FT at Venetian whilst wearing a somewhat incongruous flowerpot hat. A quick glance at the Sharky "Most Profitable MTT Player" over the last 8 years shows his finishing positions of 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd & 4th. Looking at those stats suggests we can't really suggest poker is all luck, can we? The better players will always prevail over time. 2nd was @StayOrGo who was sitting 10th in the UKOPS Leaderboard before last night. @Shrimpy28 was 3rd, & he had a much better day than many would realise. He won Week One of the Elim Freeroll affair so had £1,100 worth of UKOPS entries at his disposal, so was freerolling & any prize money was all profit. In addition, he's a big Peterborough United fan, & yesterday was their biggest game of the season, a local derby against arch rivals Cambridge United. Last season the Posh won it 4-0, could they repeat that? Not exactly - this time they thrashed The U's 6-1 (SIX-ONE). 4th 5th & 6th respectively were @FlynTimber@tonyp142 & @1Winslow, an especially good result for the last-named who was playing his first MTT since the end of October. Got some form though, ran 6th in a Summit recently.
Something of a turn-up in the Mini, where despite the presence of @Upswing & @Natnug in the last 3, the winner was @peggy2103 who despite being here 13 years has barely played. In fact it was their first MTT since June, their 2nd MTT since January 2022, & 8th MTT since July 2021. Amazing how these things happen, the glorious uncertainty of poker. Tough night for @tonyp142who was 5th in the Main but missed the Mini FT by one spot, & so denied himself an FTJ bonus. He had quite a night one way & another - 2nd in the PLO, 3rd in Event 55, 7th in the Mini, 5th in the Main, but he did win a £2 entry £300 Rebuy...
As always, the UKOPS PLO was great fun & it was @GFKIJKLL who eventually triumphed. 2nd was @tonyp142 with @4kingboss in 3rd. @Natnughas won this event the last two years but could only manage 4th last night. Flash-in the pan, official. 5th was @Froozlewith Leaderboard Leader & official GOAT @Tedson in 6th. Interesting, returning to my theme from a few days ago, none of those are to my knowledge regular or established PLO players, they are all NLH players who do OK at the 4 card game by bringing aggression & nous to PLO. I'm definitely not knocking them by the way, it just seems that a really good poker player can quickly & easily adapt to any format.
Variance has not been kind to @Natnug this Series, but he did, almost inevitably, grab a win last night, taking down #57, the Hyper Rebuy.
It's been a great Series for @PAPABURG who you may recall collected £2,500 from the FTJ kitty on Thursday (1st in Mini, 2nd in Main), & last night he grabbed top spot in #56, beating none other than High Roller winner @ChipDiddy0
@lewis274took #55. I know almost nothing of this player, except it was just their 8th MTT here since July.
Bit of a rush today I'm afraid, sorry if it's a little garbled, but I have a noon tee-time. Oh yes.
Good luck in the big stuff tonight to all those playing.
