Some random parent said to me this morning as I dropped the grandbrats off at breakfast club that she didn't think the school would be open because of the terrible weather.
I don't know if it was my slightly incredulous expression as I recounted the real ice and snow I experienced in Iceland this last January or the fact that I was clad in shorts and fell shoes that silently mocked her interpretation of "terrible weather".
Either way I don't class 1 or 2 inches of snowfall as particularly terrible and happily informed her that several more days would allow for some decent winter hiking.
She shuddered further into her thick padded and quilted down coat and looked at me like I was insane, don't know why, after all I did have a fleece on.
We've just had 30mins of it snowing here near Newquay in Cornwall, which stayed on the ground for about 10 mins or so.
.....but I've seen on the local News that the A30 is SHUT going over BODMIN MOOR because of a few inches of snow, and lorries not being able to get up the hills.

Daughter moved to St Austell today had to go Torquay way instead of A30 but fraught with problems on icy roads. Lots of accidents and queues.
I just checked - it costs £1 a copy. WTF? A QUID? We are constantly told there is a cost of living crisis & yet folks pay a quid for that? Yikes, if folks want to read utter bilge, they can read some of the stuff on this Forum for free...
I can only think of 2 members of this Forum who might buy the Daily Star, three at a push. Won't name them but not hard to guess.
Or, to put it another way, "weather likely to be bad in December" shocker.
It's completely outwith my understanding how a "newspaper" like the Daily Star survives, or who might actually buy a copy.
Life is full of wonderful mysteries, isn't it?
I couldnt think of any possible reason why anyone would buy a Daily Star.
I used to buy the Star. About 40 years ago. It is (or certainly was) written by the Owners of the Daily Express. Except without the Politics. And with Humour. So-for example-Trump is rarely named, being known as "Orange Manbaby". It also used to have the best Comic Strip-Beau Peep.
Quick silly story. While a Student, my Criminal Law lecturer was talking excitedly about a new important legal case. That he was really looking forward to reading about in the next day's Law Report in the Times. I said I was already aware of the case-lecturer wanted to know how I knew about it. Whereupon I showed him that day's Daily Star

Ha, yes, the Media do go a bit OTT, don't they?
To be fair, here in Derbyshire & Nottingham, we had a good 8" which settled & it's still not thawed.
It's had no real effect on day-to-day life though.
Our promised snow has arrived.

Hundreds of schools are closed as the storm, named Bert, sweeps in, bringing freezing temperatures and snow.
You get excited when you see something happen for the first time in 5 years
....... now where's my sledge
