Ahh, it's a) Global, & b) a bit of a misinterpretation of the facts. The numbers globally are roughly accurate, but not all of them are killed at home, there does not seem to be any Data as to WHERE they were killed.
The story is current because today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, although I expect everyone already knew that.
That sort of campaign, however well-intentioned, always annoys me.
Such things start with a big number. And then lump totally different things together as though they are the same.
"Domestic abuse" lumped together with "rape". As though they are one and the same.
Domestic abuse covers all sorts of stuff. From the trivial to the extremely serious. From someone said a bad word while in the process of a Divorce, to serious assaults. Please don't lump them together. And, please don't casually claim that all of them belong in the same category as rape.
^^^ Well yeah but it's shocking what ever the abuse being dished out, cowards
Depends very much on how you define "Domestic violence". Because the terms have changed.
What I (and I suspect you) traditionally think of as "domestic violence" is no longer called that. As the definition has widened, what people think of as domestic violence has been reclassified as "intimate partner violence".
The legal definition (and the 1 used by that campaign) has been widened. So much so, that it no longer needs to be "domestic" and no longer needs to involve "violence". As examples, honour killings are included. Family members, such as children or parents are included-even when they live elsewhere. And coercive control, without any physical contact, is included. I am not saying these are not important-they are. But they are not what people think about when people talk of domestic violence.
The campaign chose its 11 murders. Just 4 met the traditional definition. The rest were clearly indicative of extreme mental health problems. Murder-suicides. Killing by drug addict child. Even a murderer just released from prison who appeared to be unknown to the poor woman.
Domestic violence is a terrible thing. Abuse carried out by cowards, as you rightly say. Which deserves to be looked at in its own right. Not lumped together with separate matters.

@HAYSIE
"every 11 minutes a woman or girl is killed in their own home".
Struggling to believe that, though it does not say if it's globally, or just the UK.
Surely can't be 131 girls or women killed in their ow home in the UK can it. 131 per DAY?
If they mean globally, well "scale" makes the numbers more believable I suppose.
