Has the forum changed... or is it just me?

SlipwaterSlipwater Member Posts: 3,611
Admittedly, I have only been back in the house for a couple of weeks, and not posted much since my return... but I remember this place used to be a thriving hotbed of activity.

What happened?

Were the good ol' days not really all that good in the first place? Am I misremembering what it used to be like? Yes, i know, people move on and life takes you with it, but I'm disappointed that it feels like someone has let the air out of the balloon. There's a distinct lack of personality around these parts now.

Sky Poker will always have a safe place in my heart - so I say this with love - but it's a shame to see the lack of activity in 2024.

Feel free to clap back if I'm wrong or just haven't been around long enough to gauge.

Anyway, I'm sticking around... for better or worse. Hopefully we can breathe some life into 2025.

    Times change.

Many of the people who used to post on here moved on to other things. That happens. It is not a "sky poker forum" thing. It is a "forum" thing-most similar types of service have either dropped similar amounts or gone entirely.

It is not just a poker thing-although the whole online poker industry is very much in a managed decline. People do not want to place their opinions on generalised sites any more. People would generally not debate stuff, and just talk to people who are like-minded.

People are very dismissive of the few people who keep this site alive (with the exception of young Mr Kendall). Take @HAYSIE as a prime example.

He normally takes the time and trouble to post on a variety of subjects, particularly in the mornings. Frankly, if he did not do so, I doubt I would bother with the Forum most days. And I am sure I am not alone in that. How do people reward him? Snide comments, calling him the "paper boy" and stuff.

Agree with him. Disagree with him. Whatever. But 90% of the posts on here are done by about 10 people. Which is a shame. Because, at its best, this forum can be a great place.

Things like Discord and it's more modern functionalities have taken people away from the standard forums. It's a shame, in this particular case with regards to Sky, because a newcomer can be on SkyBet one minute, click a couple of tabs, and be on Sky Poker forum the next minute.

It's definitely not as active as 10 years ago but then again , neither am i :#
I think if it wasn't for Haysie it would quite possibly close down and it wouldn't surprise me

That's a shame. I completely appreciate that things change, and it's probably a little naive of me to have expected otherwise. I guess we should all raise a glass to @HAYSIE then, for keeping the doors open in this place.

Just came across this post and have to say I endorse Phils comments 100%.

@HAYSIE and myself seldom agree, often rile each other up and generally butt heads on about 99% of subjects.

However, he and a few others like him are the lifeblood of this forum and have my utmost respect and long may that continue.

    Keep posting @Slipwater ;)

Some things always change over time, but the essence of a good community is standing the test of time B) ( ps try not to mention poker :D )

Just to add that if you log on to the forum and read @HAYSIE 's posts it generally saves having to read the paper that morning. Thanks @HAYSIE !

One of the problems with alternatives such as Whatsapp, Discord etc is that they tend not to be as moderated as the Sky forum. @Tikay10 does an excellent job of keeping those of us that are left in line.
